Year 6 Leadership Incursion

On Thursday the 7th of March, the Year 6s had an incursion, exploring leadership. At the start Gill, the man who ran the incursion, talked about what we were going to do and showed us some videos. These were about pep talks and they were to hype us up for the big day ahead! Then Gill talked about BFFT’s (Best Friends for Today), who was someone unfamiliar to us. We did a quick activity with them and then went out to recess.

Afterwards we all went back to the senior library for the next part of the incursion which was the Epic Race! The Epic Race was an activity where we were all in teams and had to compete against one another. Whilst we completed the activities, we tried to use the ASPIRE acronym which stands for Action, Serve, Persist, Influence, Respect and Encourage. Once Gill said go, we were to look at our scoresheets as a group and decide what activity to do. There was a range of different activities, such as Keep it up, Swish, Puzzle Maker, Marble run and Stacking Cups blindfolded. In Puzzle Maker, for example, we all had to work together as a team to make a jigsaw puzzle.

After lunch we all gathered back onto the floor and listened to Gill who explained the third session. The third session was about working with people in our class to get through a hula hoop the fastest, learning if we are prophet people, planner people or people people. The last thing we did was a survey on the incursion. This helped us determine what leader we were.

* Which Type of Leader Are You?

  • Prophet People - They have the Big Idea
  • Planner People - They turn the Big Idea into a plan
  • People People - They support everyone to implement the plan

In conclusion, this excursion was really fun, and we got to learn a lot about each other and different ways to be a leader. We also had a great time with all the activities we did. Gill was a great example. He was very passionate to lead us. Well done to everyone involved.
