Principal Update

Melissa Mackenzie

I’d like to start with acknowledging and congratulating Gus for his efforts in representing the State at the National Aquathon event held last week in Western Australia. With two runs and a swim Gus performed extremely well. Gus is proud of his efforts and we are also feeling very proud of his passion and commitment. Well done Gus!

Gus and Jem have been leading the Ride2School Day with Megan and some staff from Yarra Council. You may have been reading their communications in the newsletter and the signs around the school. This culminates this Friday and coincides with our recognition of Harmony Day. So on Friday you will see lots of orange, decorated bike helmets, socks and shoes and of course LOTS of bikes and scooters. Thanks to Jem and Gus for promoting active travel for the school.

Congratulations to our Year 3 and 5 students who have completed their NAPLAN assessments. They have all performed extremely well, writing amazing narratives, solving challenging maths problems, spelling unusual words and reading extensive texts. Despite it being a snapshot of data which is captured digitally it usually aligns well with our school data. There are a few students who it doesn’t align with and we discuss this with the parents when the report arrives, which will be late term 2.

We have 6 students swimming in the regional finals tomorrow. We know they will perform well and make us proud with their efforts. Good luck to the swimmers.

The APS Autumn Fair is coming up at the end of week 3 next term. This event relies on everyone supporting in ways that they are able. Donations are being requested and silent auction items being collected. Please keep reading the communications about how you can help.

A reminder that we finish at 2:30pm next Thursday and so there will be no assembly.

Have a lovely week

Melissa Mackenzie
