5/6

Miss Brittany Ansons, Miss Holly McGowan, Mr Zdravko Rajic, Mrs Rowena Lytton,

Antoinette El Bazouni, Amanda Douvos, Helen Bisiach & Ester Moretti.

The 5/6 area is very busy in the lead up to the end of year. The Grade 6 students are busy practising their dance and getting organised for Graduation, some of the Grade 5 students have been applying for leadership for 2025 while their peers have been supporting them. It is really great to see the cooperation and team work in our area.

Literacy

We have been looking at the purpose and structure of picture books in Reading and discussing the ways authors engage the reader. This leads into our Writing where we have been writing picture books for our Prep buddies. Students have either written a story for the buddy they looked after this year or they have written a story for the buddy they will look after next year. Our students have put in a lot of effort planning, writing and illustrating these books and the end result will be fantastic.

Mathematics

Students have been learning about data collection and interpreting the information in tables and graphs. They have collected their own samples and created appropriate displays to show the information gathered. We have also been looking at expressing probability as a fraction. Students enjoyed discussing how probability changed in a game of deal or no deal and justifying their reasoning. This week we enjoyed a maths activity with a buddy class from a different area. 5/6D worked with Prep B to make zoos using problem solving skills and positional language.

Discovery

Students have been building a journal of their learning throughout the term. They have explored genetics and adaptations of animals and plants to help them survive in their environment. Students have researched the meaning of key words and looked for specific animals to find the ways they have adapted to their homes.
