Berry Street - Trauma Informed Education
Yesterday our staff had our second day learning about trauma-informed education with Berry Street. The focus for the day was Relationships. Some of the areas we covered were:
- Micro-moments of connection - taking every little opportunity we can to strengthen the relationships we have with our community.
- Unconditional Positive Regard - treating everyone with kindness, regardless of the situation.
- Process Praise over Person Praise - providing praise for what the person has done (e.g. "I love the way you worked together in that group") instead of praising the person (e.g. "You're so smart!".
- Staff Wellbeing - looking at ways we can look after ourselves and one another so we can be in the best state to look after our students.
We'll continue our work with Berry Street next year as we complete the last two domains - Stamina and Engagement, and Character.
Ready to Learn Plans
As promised last week, here are some examples of students' Ready to Learn Plans, where they've identified where in their bodies they feel stress, and what strategies they can use to help regulate.
