Wellbeing
Hi St Mary’s Community,
It’s been an interesting week after the excitement of the fair and the ensuing tiredness! The week has finished off well and a noticeable change is occurring with the focus on rewarding positive behaviour through our PBL (Positive Behaviour for Learning) soft launch.
I thought I would share a little about the learning of some of our students in the Wellbeing area. We have been investigating character strengths through both our Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships and Berry Street Education Model curriculum. We have been thinking about people we admire and what character strengths they possess. We then also looked inwards at ourselves which is a very interesting process and sometimes a little confronting for both children and adults alike. It is easier to celebrate and share our strengths but can also be quite confronting to acknowledge we have areas to work on. I have seen many a furrowed brow as our students contemplate the meaning of some of the strengths and then come to the realisation of where it sits with them. Our students are developing an enhanced sense of self and understanding the value of using your character strengths in our ever changing world. I encourage you to sit down with the visual I have provided and have a chat about these character strengths. You can also investigate them more through this link. https://www.viacharacter.org/character-strengths
We all have a distinct constellation of strengths
Character strengths are different than your other personal strengths, such as your unique skills, talents, interests and resources, because they reflect the "real" you—who you are at your core. Every individual possesses all 24 character strengths in different degrees, giving each person a unique character strengths profile.
I hope everyone has a great weekend and as always please come into school or make contact with me if you would like to chat.
Regards,
Mark O’Sullivan
