Ryan’s Rambling

Dear Families,

I hope this finds you all well. Our thoughts are with the Auburn South Primary School community this week after the incredibly tragic event that occurred there.  Always a good reminder to hold your children tight.

I wanted to write to everyone about social media this week. It can very much be a taboo subject; however, more and more students seem to be accessing various social media sites and apps.  There’s a really great site on the Kids’ Helpline for parents, which I will link ---- https://kidshelpline.com.au/parents/issues/social-media-and-safety If your child uses Snapchat, Instagram or a social media site that can be difficult to monitor, it might be a good idea to check in with your child about the friends they have contact with. There are increasing instances of children being convinced to part take in some incredibly dangerous things by people online, posing as children.  It’s worth being alert but not alarmed in this space.  If you ever would like to chat with our staff about social media use, please let us know.

On Tuesday this week, we welcomed our 2025 Foundation students in for their first transition session. Over the 45-minute session, the students got the chance to engage in some letter tracing activities, having a picture story book read to them and creating their very own character. We have 19 vibrant and positive new Foundation students starting with us next year and they are a simply lovely group. Again, I ask parents to please make new parents feel welcome if you see them in the yard over the course of the term. We have a few more transition opportunities for our Foundation students over the course of the term.

This week, we celebrated our Teachers for World Teachers’ Day. Whilst the official day was last week, we waited until this week due to the Swimming Program.  Our Student Leaders worked hard this week to create a little tribute video for our teachers, which we shared at Assembly this morning. It was a fun little project to be part of, but the continual strong, positive affirmations for our staff were fantastic to hear.

Next week, we have another couple of school visiting us, to view our Literacy Instruction. We have a number of staff from Black Hill Primary, Ballarat Christian College and Phoenix College visiting over the course of the week.

I do hope that the public holiday next week offers you a chance to refresh, unwind and spend time with those closest to you.

Ryan 😊
