Webster Street Nedlands Project Team

We recognise that it’s been a while since our last update on 26 July 2024, when we confirmed the good news that the original Loreto convent and school building had been accepted onto the WA State Heritage register.

Since that time, we have continued to work with planners and local and State Government to consider potential future uses for the former school site and engaged with potential purchasers – and this process is ongoing, as we work towards a sale of the land. We will continue to provide updates as new information becomes available, but should you have any questions, please contact the Creating Communities engagement team on 9284 0910 or via - engagement@creatingcommunities.com.au or  info@websterstreetnedlands.com.au

Collection of Fundraising Bricks

In recent weeks, we have received some queries around plans for fundraising bricks used at the former school, which featured the names of contributing families. Following the closure of the school in December last year, consideration was being given to what should be done with these – whether they could be reused in some way on the site, retained as part of a museum or exhibition, or returned to families.

Unfortunately, while this was being considered, a number of these bricks were forcibly removed from the site without authorisation. In this process, a number of remaining bricks were also damaged. In order to protect the remaining bricks, these were professionally removed, audited and stored. In the coming weeks, we will be offering families the chance to come and collect their fundraising brick if they would like to retain this as a memento of their time at Loreto.

If this is of interest, please let the Creating Communities team know via - engagement@creatingcommunities.com.au or info@websterstreetnedlands.com.au, before 31 October, 2024 and we will be in touch with more details on how and when to collect your brick.
