Faith and Mission
Our College community is invited to a special opportunity to venerate the relic of Blessed Carlo Acutis, a remarkable teenager on the path to sainthood. Carlo’s relic, along with an exhibition of Eucharistic Miracles from around the world, will be on display in Perth until January 2025. You can visit the relic at St Mary’s Cathedral from Monday, 21 October to Thursday, 24 October, or at St Mary’s Star of the Sea, Cottesloe from Saturday, 26 October to Wednesday, 30 October.
Carlo Acutis, born in 1991, was a typical teenager with a love for the Eucharist and a passion for technology. He used his skills to create a website documenting Eucharistic miracles from across the globe. Known for his joyful spirit and deep faith, Carlo demonstrated that holiness is attainable even in today’s world. He passed away from leukemia at just 15 years old, and his inspiring life led to his beatification in 2020, making him one step closer to becoming the first millennial saint.
Relics, which are physical objects connected to saints, hold a special place in the Catholic tradition. They are often parts of the saint’s body or items they used. Venerating relics allows the faithful to honour these holy individuals, who serve as role models of holiness and intercessors before God. It is not about worshipping the saint but about strengthening one’s connection with God through the saint’s life and example.
Carlo’s life serves as a reminder that we are all called to live authentically for Christ. He famously said, We are all born original, but many die as photocopies,” encouraging each of us to embrace our unique journey toward holiness.
We encourage all families to take this opportunity to visit St Mary’s Cathedral or St Mary’s Star of the Sea to learn more about this extraordinary young man and deepen their faith. More details can be found in the respective parish newsletters.
