BE HALLOGREEN THIS HALLOWEEN 🎃

Halloween’s just around the corner, and we all love the spooky season at RPS!

But there’s a scary reality behind the fun of Halloween and that's how much waste it contributes to landfill with all the decorations, party supplies and plastic packaging from the treats and toys.

But don’t worry the Ripper Green Team have some simple tips to help you enjoy a spooky AND sustainable Halloween:

Get crafty with DIY decorations: Raid your recycling bin! Turn old cardboard into tombstones, glass jars into creepy candle holders, and scrap fabric into ghostly figures. Wool wrapped around sticks or embroidery hoops make          excellent spider webs.

Reuse or swap costumes: Instead of buying new, why not swap costumes with friends? Many local op-shops (Glenhuntly road has many!) have great selections of second-hand costumes. You’ll save money and the planet.

Avoid plastic party supplies and lolly wrappers: many chocolates and lollies come in paper wrapping and you can also opt for reusable or compostable alternatives.

If plastic isn’t avoidable don’t forget to save those soft plastics and book a Power Pickup with RecycleSmart: https://www.recyclesmart.com/

Finally – please encourage your trick or treaters to keep their lollies and chocolate rubbish in their collection buckets to dispose of at home so that we can keep our local streets free of waste.
