Welcome Ripper Families to what will be an exciting Term 4 in Physical Education. Our students will be starting new units of sport to practice some new skills and movement, whilst practising to be a fair and resilient sportsperson.
Our Foundation students are working through Striking & Fielding units. They finished last term getting their first taste of Tee Ball! They were learning essential skills such as throwing, catching, and hitting from a tee, all while having fun and building teamwork. Through engaging activities and games, students are developing hand-eye coordination and practising basic fielding techniques. It’s been wonderful to see their enthusiasm as they improve their skills and gain confidence on the field.
The Year 1/2 students are also working on a Striking & Fielding unit. To start the term, students have been enjoying plastic bat tennis on mini courts. They are learning key skills like striking, rallying, and developing their hand-eye coordination. The smaller court setup helps students focus on controlling their movements and making successful contact with the ball. It’s been fantastic to see their teamwork in doubles games as they improve their tennis abilities in a fun, supportive environment.
This term in Physical Education, our Year 3/4 students have been diving into the fast-paced game of handball. They are developing skills such as passing, dribbling, and shooting, while also learning about teamwork and game strategy. Through small-sided games and drills, students are building their agility and coordination and gaining confidence in working together on the court. It’s exciting to see their competitive spirit and sportsmanship shine as they grow in both skills and understanding of the game.
Our Year 5/6 students concluded Term 3 focusing on improving their AFL skills and learning the rules of AFL 9s. Through drills and practice games, they developed important skills such as kicking, handballing and marking in a non-contact format. AFL 9s is a modified version of the game that emphasizes speed, teamwork, and strategy, making it both fun and accessible for all students. It’s been fantastic to see their skills improve and their love for the game grow as they engage in this version of AFL.
Outside of our school classes, I would also like to pass on my congratulations to every student who competed at the Balaclava Division Athletics Carnival this week. It is a fantastic effort to make it this far through the Sporting Schools Athletics program and you should all be extremely proud of your efforts! Special shout out to Jamie from 5/6A who won the First Place in Discus.

Bonjour Ripper Families!
I hope you all enjoyed the school holidays! It has been lovely listening to the students share some of their adventures over the break. They have settled well and are ready to begin learning French this term.
Foundation- We have begun the term by viewing a video about Paris and discussing some of the landmarks, food, drink, dress, flag, greetings and introductions associated with French culture. We also identified some of the French language presented including bonjour, merci beaucoup and pardon moi!
Year 1/2- The students have been introduced to the story “ The Very Greedy Dog”, looking at language in the context of food and time.
Year 3/4 - We are beginning to look at some of the French towns and cities and compare them to places students know in Australia.
Year 5/6 - The students have commenced our unit on “ This is France” focusing on learning about the neighbours of France.
We continue practising greetings and introductions and learning about different cultural dances.
Merci
