Living Things - Woodbridge Marine Discovery Centre Year 1 Excursion

To conclude our unit on Living Things Year 1 students attended the Woodbridge Marine Discovery Centre late last term. Students enjoyed learning about a range of marine animals and their habitats and were able to engage in multiple hands-on learning experiences. Highlights included exploring the touch tank room, feeding the skates and sharks, creating a diorama of an underwater habitat, watching a baited camera, creating their own bioluminescent marine animal artwork and looking at micro-organisms under microscopes.

Students had a fantastic day and learnt lots about our local marine life. Many were encouraged to pursue further learning through reading information books about this topic, and others discussed the need to protect and look after our local marine areas. Some students chose this as a focus for their next unit, where they made a poster and discussed how to care for local places.
