Remembrance Day
Remembrance Day marks the date in 1918 when the First World War came to an end. In the lead up to Remembrance Day we learnt about those that had served our country in wars, conflicts and peace operations.
Then on Monday morning at 11am our school leaders ran a commemorative service for Remembrance Day. They told us about why we have Remembrance Day and the importance of pausing for a minute's silence. We also sold poppies, raising money for the RSL Poppy Appeal and made our own poppies.
2025 Student Leaders
This afternoon I had the pleasure of listening to some of our Year 5 students make a speech to their peers, as part of their application process for School Captain and Vice Captain positions for 2025.
12 Year 5 students gave a speech today outlining the reasons they would be good school leaders for next year. All 12 of these students did a terrific job preparing and presenting a speech about our 3 school values, being role models and their interpersonal skills. From these speeches, we have shortlisted and offered 6 students an individual interview that will take place on Tuesday, next week. Once these positions have been decided, we will then work out who the other Year 6 Student Leaders are for positions like our Curriculum and Sports Leaders.
Transitioning to 2025
The end of the school year is on the horizon and with it comes Christmas and the joy of the summer holidays. This time of year also brings change for our students as we leave familiar friends and teachers and adjust to new ones in 2025. Sometimes these changes make our students, and parents, feel unsure, nervous and even a little worried about what might happen next.
Each year we run a whole school transition program to support our students to embrace the end of year changes and to thrive in their next year level. Our first whole school transition is next Friday 22nd November. Students will spend a session in their draft classes for next year (note this is very unlikely to be your child's teacher for next year, as teachers have not yet been allocated for 2025). There will then be another session on the 29th of November and a full day on Tuesday 10th December, when students will be notified of their 2025 teacher. The aims of our transition program are to have students:
Fundraising
We are looking for donations for our Christmas Raffle. Each year we ask for items to be donated so that we can use these in our raffle hamper prizes. Tickets are already on sale for $1.00, and we are hoping to make up some really great prizes. However, without your donations our prizes can be very limited. So next time you are out at the shops, we ask that you consider a donation to our Christmas Raffle, we would be thrilled to receive new items such as:
This term's Book Fair raised a total of $1043 for our school, thank you to all of our families who made a purchase.
School Saving Bonus Update
The Victorian Government's School Saving Bonus provides a one-off $400 to help Victorian families cover the costs of their childs’ school uniforms, textbooks, excursions and activities. Confirmed families will receive an email from the Department of Education, from late November, with a link to an online system, where you can access the $400 bonus. You will get a separate email for each child enrolled in a government school.
Regional Junior Hooptime
On Monday 11th November, 7 students from Year 4 competed in the Regional Junior Hooptime at Dreamstreet Arena in Frankston. It was a great day, with lots of good competition, which lead to some really close games. We won 2 games, lost 2 very close games and drew one game. The team worked hard, demonstrated good teamwork and sportsmanship and are even more determined for next year! A huge thank you to Jenni Maypiece for coaching the team!
Colour Run for Fun - Next Wednesday 20th November
We are on the final countdown to our Colour Run for Fun, our schools biggest fundraiser for the year.
Date: Wednesday 20th November
Where: It will be held on the school field and surrounding play areas.
Times:
9.15-9.45am – FOUNDATION
9.50-10.40am – YEAR 1/2
12.15-1.00 – YEAR 3/4
1.00-1.45pm – YEAR 5/6
2.40-3.15pm – SLIME THE TEACHER
What students need to bring: Students will need to bring a white T-shirt to wear on the day. This will ensure they get really colourful! They will be provided with coloured sunglasses and a coloured head band to wear. If your child doesn’t want to get coloured, but still wants to run around, please let your classroom teacher know and they will be given a coloured sash to wear.
Last years Colour Run for Fun money paid for our two new Gaga Pits! We are hoping to raise more funds this year, that will go towards new play equipment for our Junior School. We have 94 students in the school that have created online profiles and have raised $7570 so far. It will take just a few minutes to set up and it’s easy to share the link to friends/family/social media to spread the word! There are lots of prizes for the students to choose from when they raise as little as $10. If you haven’t set up a profile for your child, all the instructions are in the booklet that was sent home with your child OR you can click the link below to register and set up www.myprofilepage.com.au We have also decided to have our SLIME THE TEACHER back this year! It was SO fun last year, we have to do it again this year! For every $150 your child raises, they will get to SLIME A TEACHER! If your family raises $150 or more, all the children will get to SLIME A TEACHER together!
After each year levels run, students will be receiving a Zooper Dooper. If you would prefer your child not to have one, please see your class teacher. Students wont be able to choose their flavour, it will be what they have been given.
Parents/carers are more than welcome to come and watch, however parents/carers and siblings are unable to participate.
