Year 9 STEM

Year 9 STEM students have been learning about the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

In future lessons they will work collaboratively to consider real-world problems and develop a range of solutions for using the design thinking process. To assist in getting to know each other and develop critical and creative thinking skills, students have been participating in collaborative design challenges such as constructing the tallest freestanding tower using only icy pole sticks and rubber bands, and constructing a one metre basketball stand out of newspapers and masking tape.

La Trobe STEM Challenge

On Monday 22 July a group of EDSC students from Year 9 & Year 10 participated in a STEM challenge at La Trobe University. We thank the Rotary Club of Manningham for sponsoring our participation in the event.

The students were competing against other schools in the area, which included Lalor Secondary College, Ivanhoe Grammar and St Helena Secondary College. Students were set into groups, where they were each given a challenge to complete. Students on the day competed in challenges such as bridge building, wind power, electricity distribution, codebreaking and flight.

After a great effort on the day by our students, EDSC were announced as the winners of the day, and a plaque was awarded to the school.
