From the School Leadership Team

Welcome back

It has been brilliant to welcome our school families back to another exciting term with much planned, as well as to welcome our new mid year Foundation students and new students and families in the older grades. it is a great blessing to have you as part of our school community and we look forward to the partnership ahead.

We have an exciting first week of school happening, with Foundation students in their new learning spaces. We are excited that the new building has been completed and handed over. Our sincere thanks go to Craig Vale our architect who has had a wonderful vision and design for the new building, to Comace our builders for all of their efforts - especially Ryan, Grant, Felice and the team, and to our School Board and Tanya Rowland for all of their planning and significant efforts in bringing this next sage of our buildings and facilities master plan to life.

As well as Foundation moving into new learning spaces, Year 1 and 2 have moved into the previous Foundation classrooms. They are now in larger spaces which offer more flexibility for learning which is great to see. Mrs Ali's Music Room is all set up again in the previous 1/2AK classroom.

Reflections on Term 2

Thank you again to our families and students for the wonderful term that that Term 2 has been. When we reflect on the term, much has taken place!

We commenced the term with our School Anzac Day Service, attended by The Hon Tony Zappia MP, Member for Makin, Mr Ray Shillabeer and a catafalque party from 7RAR, as well as Aaron Madden, Army Bugler. We are grateful for al who attended to support this solemn occasion of remembrance.

We enjoyed a whole school dance workshop from One50 Dance, which has flowed into offering a regular weekly dance club on Thursday lunchtimes in Term 3 for years 3-  6. It is still not too late to register for Dance Club - please register your child's interest on the link below to ensure we have the minimum numbers required to make this a possibility.

Students did a fantastic job of representing the school at SACSA Athletics and Cross Country as well as the SACSA Soccer Gala Days.

Our class carers did a phenomenal job with the Mothers' Day Stall and our P & F held a hugely successful Quiz Night and Date Night. A huge thank you to class carers and P & F for all the work they do for our school.

We were privileged to host Blair Boyer MP for a visit to join us at Chapel, present a new South Australian Flag to the school as part of Year 3/4's Unit of Inquiry as well as to inspect our new Foundation classrooms. We are grateful for Blair's ongoing support of our learning community.

The library was a busy place with National Simultaneous Storytime, and we enjoyed seeing our postcards to space finally get launched into space. They should return to Earth in another few months and then come back to be redistributed to the students as a momento of our involvement in the programme.

Our SRC did an amazing job of drawing on their student voice to enhance our school, successfully securing a $1000 Woolworths Landcare Grant to help re-establish our vegetable garden and orchard, and a $5000 SA Power Networks Grant to enable us to install solar panels on the new Foundation Centre building, reducing our ongoing electricity costs and contributing towards a sustainable future for our world. The great thing about student voice is not only the capacity of students to influence their learning environment positively, it also enables the children to make a difference to the world here and now. This is a really powerful thing as students should not feel like they need to wait to graduate from school and 'become an adult' in order to tangibly influence our community and our world for the better.

Middle of Term Breakfast was delicious and a wonderful time of catching up between families, students and our staff team and our Colour Run was even more popular than ever with the children having a great time and so many adults joining in the fun and supporting the occasion through volunteering - thank you!

Kylie Chinca received a Pride in Excellence Award for the quality of all that she does as a member of our staff team from the Salisbury Rotary Club, and our enrichment programme is also well underway with students attending DaVinci Decathlon at St Peter's Girls' and our debating team commencing their schedule of debates.

We welcomed our new mid year Foundation students for their transition visits in preparation for next term, and had many excursions including Year 1 heading to Wynn Vale Dam, Year 2 to the Planetarium at Uni SA and Year 4 to Endeavour College. 2/3T also had an awesome celebration of learning!

GLOW Week has proved to be a wonderful initiative and inclusion to our school calendar. It has been such a pleasure to see the different groups enjoying their learning and undertaking personal interestp rojects this week. A huge thank you to all of our parent and community volunteers as well as to our staff team for their efforts, especially Mrs Neumann, Mrs Richardson and Mr Kriewaldt - your hard work and assistance with the programme was invaluable!

Vicki and her team at GGOSH ran a brilliant Vacation Care programme  for the many students joined us there over the break - thank you!

Staffing Update

We wish Mrs Emily Gower the very best as she goes on maternity leave at the end of this term. She will be a great mum to her new bub and we pray for the birth to go smoothly and for the time of having a new addition to the family to be a great joy! Thanks for all that you have done with Year 3/4FG, Emily!

This term we welcome Cloe Richardson to 3/4FG - Cloe will continue to teach her specialist art lessons across the school on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and will then teach 3/4FG on Thursdays and Fridays.
