Being Well at Magill
Year 6 Leadership Update
Written by the Year 6 leaders
Our student leadership team at Magill Primary School has had an incredibly exciting and busy term preparing for the most anticipated event of the year—Sports Day! After many early Thursday morning meetings in weeks 2, 3, and 4, along with our regular Friday gatherings, we've put in a tremendous effort to finalise the Sports Day dance and chants.
This year, we decided to bring back some nostalgia by choosing "Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)," a song originally sung by Shakira for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Many of us remember it fondly from our 2018 Sports Day, when all of us Year Sixes were just in Reception. The song not only brings a sense of familiarity but also adds a fun and upbeat vibe to the day. We based our dance on the "Just Dance" routine from that year, making a few tweaks to suit our style.
Each team now has its own fantastic chant, and everyone is set to perform the well-choreographed dance on Sports Day. We've recorded the routine so that the whole school can practise and perfect it before the big day in Week 9. We hope you all enjoy preparing, practising, and participating in Sports Day this year—it’s going to be simply splendid! Be there or be square!
