Principal News - Term 3 Week 2

It seems a long time ago but on the 24th of May we celebrated the 100th Anniversary of the school. This week on 24th of July we celebrate 100 days of school. Each year level organised activities reflecting on experiences over the course of the year to date.  We are very proud of the achievements of all students and our year level teams.

Term 3 is a very active term and next week children celebrate a special activity which is our walkathon on Thursday 1st August. All classes are preparing banners and learning a chant to sing while they walk along the Diamond Creek trail from the oval up past the soccer ground. Prizes and certificates will  be awarded to the classes in a variety of categories.  This is a sponsorship event and families have a sponsorship form. Please support your child to gain a few people to donate if possible.  The funds will go to playground improvements led by student leaders.

As well we have a number of District sporting events taking place.  Sarah Van Nieukerk will prepare a report on the sports results in a few weeks.

Janine Tucker (Mental Health and Well-being coordinator) has been working with our student well-being leaders to involve this group in projects around the school ground to create areas for children to have quiet time.  Building student voice and agency is very important and this team actively thought of some great ideas.  Janine arranged for them to meet with a landscape company. We are grateful for the PFA fundraising that enabled this project to go ahead.  Behind the school assembly area a walking path and seating area was created. A large sculpture was installed. Many children had created a mosaic tile display on large pencils in the Mindfulness Centre during lunchtime sessions with the assistance of Mary Lou Pittard (local Potter). Another area near the Mindfulness Centre was upgraded and more seating and mosaic pencils installed around a second sculptural display. The next area to be developed is up near the back gate at the top of the ramp.  This is a very large fairly flat area and something very special can go there.  We are open to gathering lots of great ideas.
