Congratulations Ms Taylor

We are very proud to inform our school community that our own Ms Taylor was nominated for the prestigious "Graduate of the Year" award. This recognition is a testament to her outstanding achievements, dedication, and contributions during her time at university and throughout her teaching placements.

Ms Taylor was listed in the top 25 finalists state wide! This is a significant accomplishment, considering the high calibre of students who were nominated.

As a top 25 finalist, her academic excellence, leadership, and excellent placement reports  in the university community have distinguished her among her peers. The university and Surfside are incredibly proud of Ms Taylor's accomplishments and we are excited to see her teaching journey progress..

We congratulate Ms Taylor on this remarkable achievement and we are extremely lucky to have her at Surfside.

Bellarince SC Basketball Program 2025

Australian Maths Competition

We had a number of students participate in the recent Australian Maths Competition. First run in 1978, the Australian Mathematics Competition is Australia’s longest running, largest and most well-known maths competition for school students.

Like all our competitions, the AMC contains unique problems designed each year by leading educators and academics to challenge and extend your students’ problem-solving skills. We look forward to celebrating the achievements of our students and thank Mr Chapman for his organisation and support of the competition.

NED Performance - Postponed

Unfortunately our NED (Growth Mindset) performance was postponed last Friday due to a presenter illness. Currently we are on a waiting list for a performance date and we will communicate this to families as soon as a date is secured. A big thank you to Kellie for organising this event and it was a shame we couldn't participate on a beautiful sunny Friday afternoon.

Democracy in Education

The year 6 students had a visit from Libby Coker (Federal Member of Parliament) to learn about democracy and levels of government. There were some amazing learning opportunities, conversations and questions. We thank Libby for taking the time to visit our students but also take a tour around the school visiting our STEAM Learning Centre.

Sustainability at Surfside

A big thank you to our sustainability crew who developed a focus on Plastic Free July. We definitely saw a decrease in soft plastics within the school and this was also supported by our Nude Food Friday. There was a major focus on the collection of plastic bottle tops and bread tags in each class throughout the month of July. We collected, added up and we were able to show off the MASSIVE amount collected!!! Check out the amazing pictures and footage below. These are donated to a company that create wheelchairs out of recycled plastics and materials. A big thank you to our school community for supporting this cause. The winning class will be announced following our bookweek parade.

Police Visit in Schools

The Foundation students had members of our local police come and visit including Senior Constable Eric Taylor who is our community liason officer. The visit had a focus on the following:

  • Raising connection in the community
  • Road safety
  • Stranger danger
  • A demonstration of police equipment and vehicles
  • The role police play in our community

It was a great opportunity for the students to engage and connect with members of their local community

Life Skills Group Fundraising Effort

A big thank you to the Surfside Snack Shack who have provided an opportunity for some mid week snacks while supporting community and world issues through a sustainable approach. Keep an eye out each week via compass and the school Facebook page for the treat being offered for that week. We have been able to celebrate some special events and connect with things happening around the school. A big thank you to Clancey, Gill and the Surfside Snack Shack for their great work and initiative.

All food items are in accordance with our Anaphylaxis Policy, being

nut free and sesame free. Dairy free options will also be available when possible.

Year 1 Discovery Centre Excursion

Science and STEAM has been at the fingertips of most year levels and the year 1's had a great start with an excursion to the marine discovery centre. They learnt all about ocean animals diet, habitat and features to support them in preparing to write information reports. It was an amazing experience for the year 1's.
