The Smile Squad free school dental program is coming to our school

Dear Rosanna Primary families,

The Smile Squad team from Banyule Community Health are coming to our school soon.

This means ALL students can get a free dental check-up, preventive services, and treatment at school.

Smile Squad oral health packs

All children deserve a healthy smile, and the Smile Squad free school dental program is working hard to help make sure this happens.

Your child(ren) will soon receive a free oral health pack to bring home. The pack contains a toothbrush, full sized toothpaste, and an oral health brochure. Please take the time to read the brochure. It’s full of helpful hints and tips to help your whole family eat well, drink well and clean well – for life.

Standard strength toothpaste

Smile Squad provides standard strength fluoride toothpaste that is generally used by ages six and over, unless recommended by a dental or trained health professional.

If your child is under six, please talk to a dental or trained health professional to find out if your child might benefit from using this toothpaste. You can also choose to put the toothpaste away until they turn six or give it to someone else in your family to use.

Do I need to attend my child’s appointment?

No, you do not need to attend your child’s appointment. You can attend if you would like to, and you can take your child to the community dental clinic if you prefer.

The Banyule Community Health Smile Squad look forward to seeing you soon.

Guinea Pig News

Puggles the school guinea pig had term 2 off from coming up to school. She moved house and her family had a lot going on in their lives (LOL) so we took a break and started up again last week.

The kids loved seeing her again and she got lots of pats. She will be up every Wednesday lunch time sharing the space with the finger knitting club.

If you would like to learn more about Puggles, please join her Facebook group. And if you have no carnivorous pets (eg no dogs or cats), and would like to have her on a weekend, please let me know. (She spent some time with a family on the school holidays and loved it!)

Taking care of a pet is very good for kids‘ mental health, as well as teaching them responsibility and caring for another living creature. Please reach out via the FB group.

Photo is of her getting her nails cut on the school holidays (her and my least favorite thing to do 😂).

Chicken News

I love celebrating milestones and on Tuesday this week it was 1 year since Blizzard and Shadow joined the RPS flock.

A big thank you to all the parents who help out each weekend by letting them out and putting them away. My job is made so much easier having you all on the chicken team.

Our current roster takes us all the way through term 3 so if you would like to help out in term 4 and beyond, please send me a text. Looking after the chickens is very easy. It’s literally just letting them out and putting them away each day on a weekend, or a small part of the school holidays. And you get to keep the eggs!

As always - thanks also, to all of you who bring up your kitchen scraps and garden weeds. Amazingly, they have continued laying eggs through winter which I put down to them being so well fed. They really are very lucky chickens.

(Picture is of them enjoying some watermelon last week - yum!)

Cheers Jackie

Parent Survey - School Saving Bonus

The School Saving Bonus will be available to parents and carers of every child enrolled in a Victorian government school in 2025. If you are a parent or carer of more than one child, your school will receive the $400 credit for each child under your family account.

The Department of Education is currently working on how the School Saving Bonus can be spent.

The department is seeking feedback from parents and carers through a short survey. Your feedback is important. More information about the School Saving Bonus is available on the Victorian Government website

The department will provide more guidance about the Bonus in Term 3, 2024.

Big Group Hug Needs Kids Coats!

Big Group Hug has run out of coats for local kids in need.  Until the end of term please leave at Reception any kids size 2 to kids size 16 coats.  Any winter clothes will be gratefully accepted, but they desperately need coats.
