Welcome back to Term 3!
I trust you all had a restful break and slowed down for a few weeks. Term 3 is our celebration of Performing Arts with a concert. The Prep/1 students have their own performance in week 8 at Kew HS and the Year 2-6 students have a performance in week 10 at Ivanhoe Girls Grammar Performing Arts Centre. Preparations are well underway for both events. We have 53 very excited Year 5 and 6 students heading to Mt Buller next week for our annual ski camp. The Year 3’s and 4’s also have their camp in week 8. In addition, we have 3 Way Conferences (Teacher, Student, Parent) on 6 August, where students only attend school for their conference on that day. TheirCare will be operating on this day - please contact them directly to book in.
Athletics for the Year 3-6 students and a FunRun for the junior students are planned in weeks 3 and 5. We will celebrate Book Week, Multi-Cultural Day and APS’ 116th Birthday along with recognition of 'Bullying No Way'. At APS we pride ourselves on offering our students a wide range of experiences to broaden their understanding and appreciation of the world.
At the end of last term, we farewelled our Performing Arts teacher Haylee who has taken up a position at a school closer to her home. Thanks to Haylee for all her effort this year. We welcome Andrew Hutchins who you may know as he is a regular CRT. He will join APS on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
Welcome Andrew.
Our Student Free Day on Monday gave staff the opportunity to analyse some of our school data and make plans for the next semester. We also had a staff wellbeing session presented from ‘Be You’ which reminded us to look after ourselves, especially in relation to the busy term we have planned. Here is some of our NAPLAN data which has just been released. NAPLAN is measured in proficiency levels being Exceeding, Strong, Developing and Needs Additional Support. I have provided the % of students in the top two proficiency levels:
Year 3 | Year 5 | |
Reading | 75% | 98% |
Numeracy | 81% | 91% |
Writing | 94% | 98% |
Spelling | 68% | 93% |
Grammar and Punctuation | 66% | 93% |
Once again these are very pleasing results for our students. Individual reports will be available for collection from the office on Monday 22 July. Please note they must be collected by an adult. At the end of next week any uncollected reports will be mailed home.
Have a lovely week
