Sports Report
Year 8 Table Tennis State finals
Our year 8 boys/mixed table tennis team made it through to the State finals. Henry, Dougal, Asher and Bill represented Northcote in a tremendous way, winning 2 of their 3 pool games and advanced into the final 4 teams. Unfortunately, we were eliminated in the semi final, but were very competitive in all matches. It was a tremendous effort to finish as the third best team in the state. A special thanks to Asher B and Thomas B in year 9 for the help on the day.
Sport Wrap Up for 2024
This has been a highly successful year for NHS sports and we have seen great participation across all year levels. Many students and teams competed at Division, Regional and State. This year we were able to grow the NHS swimming carnival to Year 7 and 8. This was held at the new Northcote Aquatic Centre, and we ended up having five students advance all the way through to the State Carnival for swimming. We are hoping to continue to build this carnival and continue to increase participation.
We also had great participation in our whole school athletics carnival, including a fantastic dress up and show of support towards the houses. We had many students advance all the way to the State Carnival, with 10 students representing NHS and 2 students winning their events. Other sports teams that represented Northcote at State Finals included, both the senior and year 8 soccer teams, year 7 tennis, year 8 table tennis and intermediate baseball. On top of this, we had an incredible 16 students represent our school at State cross country.
We have also seen a huge increase in participation in both the Netball and Basketball selection tournaments at the junior and intermediate year levels. The opportunity to play these sports off site at Narrandjeri stadium has been greatly appreciated.
We have had further growth in the basketball program thanks to Mike Torres leading the program. Through this program students competed in several basketball tournaments throughout the year.
The Volleyball Development program has also seen huge growth and improvement under Emma Hales leadership and are competing at Nationals on the Gold Coast this week.
We are incredibly proud of the dedication and talent displayed by all our athletes and look forward to another exciting year of growth and success in sport at NHS in 2025.
