Physical Education December Newsletter

Foundation

As we approach the end of the year, it has been a joy to reflect on the progress our Foundation students have made in Physical Education. The growth in their skills, confidence, and enthusiasm for movement has been truly inspiring.

In these final weeks, students will have the opportunity to consolidate and apply the fundamental movement skills (FMS) they have developed throughout the year. Through a combination of fun, engaging games and station-based activities, they will practise skills such as throwing, jumping, catching and more. In addition to games, we will set up station rotations to allow students to focus on specific FMS in smaller groups. This provides them with the chance to revisit and refine their skills in a supportive and engaging environment.

We have loved watching the students’ confidence grow throughout the year. They have developed resilience, teamwork, and a genuine joy for movement. These final weeks will also help them strengthen their ability to work collaboratively—an essential foundation for their transition into Year 1 next year.

Thank you for your ongoing support and encouragement. It has been a privilege to watch your children learn, grow, and thrive through physical activity.

Year 1 & 2

As we near the end of the term, it’s been wonderful to see the Year 1 and 2 students fully engaged in their physical education lessons. Recently, our focus has been on developing and applying dodging skills, and the students have thoroughly enjoyed learning how to master this fundamental movement.

Dodging is a crucial skill for agility and coordination, and it’s been exciting to see the children develop confidence in their ability to change direction quickly, anticipate opponents' movements, and maintain control. We've explored different techniques such as side-stepping and changing speed—all of which have been practised during game-based activities.

Two standout games that the students have particularly enjoyed are “Wolves’ Den” and “Fireball.”

  • In Wolves’ Den, students must navigate through a designated area while avoiding being tagged by the "wolves." This game emphasises spatial awareness and quick decision-making.
  • In Fireball, players dodge soft balls rolled or lightly thrown across the space, honing their reactions and coordination.

Both activities have been excellent opportunities for students to apply their dodging skills in fun, dynamic settings, while also working on teamwork and strategic thinking.

Looking ahead, we’ll continue to build on the many physical skills the students have developed this year. Through a variety of gameplay activities, we will revisit and reinforce concepts such as teamwork, cooperation and fundamental motor skills (FMS) in the final weeks of the term. It’s a fantastic way to wrap up the year, ensuring the children stay active and engaged while consolidating what they’ve learned.

Year 3 & 4

Forehand Strike Success

This term, our Year 3 and 4 students have been working hard on their tennis forehand strike skills. From learning the basics to refining their technique, it’s been incredible to see their progress. To celebrate their efforts, we recorded their forehand strikes and uploaded them onto Seesaw. Be sure to check out their work and cheer them on!

Gameplay and Teamwork

Now that we’ve built a strong foundation, we’re moving on to gameplay and skill application. Through a variety of fun and engaging games, students will get to apply their skills while learning the importance of teamwork and strategy. These activities encourage communication, problem-solving, and sportsmanship as they work together to achieve common goals. We’re excited to see their skills in action and watch their confidence continue to grow!

Year 5 & 6

Forehand Strike Mastery

In PE this month, our Year 5 and 6 students have shown tremendous effort in mastering the tennis forehand strike. From fine-tuning their stance to improving accuracy and power, it’s been a joy to watch their hard work pay off. The focus has been on consistency and precision, laying the groundwork for success in gameplay situations.

Skill Application and Strategy

With their forehand strike skills sharpened, we’re now diving into gameplay and strategic application. Through a variety of exciting games, students will test their abilities in real-game scenarios, challenging them to think critically, adapt to dynamic situations, and demonstrate teamwork. This stage is all about putting their skills to the test and striving for mastery in both technique and tactics. We can’t wait to see their leadership and collaboration shine as they step up to new challenges!
