Foundation

This term, our Foundation learners have made incredible progress in understanding the world of hardware and software. From exploring how devices work to using iPads creatively in class, it has been an exciting journey of discovery!

As we embrace the use of iPads at home and in school, let's remember the vital cyber safety rules we've learned in Innovation and Design. Staying safe online is key to unlocking the full potential of technology while protecting ourselves and others.

Thank you for supporting our learners as they grow into safe, responsible digital citizens.

Year 1

Our Year 1 students have been diving into some really important life lessons in Innovation and Design. They’ve been learning how to recognise peer pressure and, more importantly, what to do if they ever feel it. It’s been incredible to see their confidence grow as they practice standing up for themselves and making choices they’re proud of.

We’ve also been talking about technology—when and why it’s important to ask for permission before using it. These conversations are helping them build good habits that keep them safe, respectful, and responsible, both online and offline.

It’s amazing to see how thoughtful and curious they are becoming. Thank you for supporting these lessons at home—it makes such a difference!

Here’s to more learning, growing, and navigating life together.

Year 2

This term, our Year 2 students have been learning some big life lessons in Innovation and Design. We’ve been talking about how to make good choices when using technology and how our actions online can impact others. It’s been wonderful to see their curiosity and understanding grow as we dive into these important topics.

One of the key things we’ve explored is what makes a good online friend—things like being kind, honest, and respectful. The kids have been practicing how to show these qualities in their online interactions and making sure their choices reflect who they want to be, both on and offline.

We’re so proud of how thoughtful and engaged they’ve been in these lessons. Thank you for continuing these conversations at home—it’s amazing to see how these young learners are becoming kind and responsible digital citizens.

Year 3

The Year 3 students have been learning how to handle peer pressure with confidence, think critically about online information, and understand how their actions impact how others see them. The students provided examples of how they have faced positive and negative peer pressure in their lives as a reflection on Seesaw.

In addition, we’ve been thinking critically about the information they read or observe online. With so much content out there, it’s vital they learn how to question what they see, identify reliable sources, and make informed decisions based on facts.

They’ve been amazing at sharing ideas and practicing ways to stay true to themselves while being kind and respectful. It’s inspiring to see their confidence and awareness grow every week.

Thank you for supporting these important lessons at home!

Year 4

This term, our Year 4 students have been working on some truly important life lessons in Innovation and Design. It’s been amazing to see how thoughtful and engaged they are as we explore topics that help them grow into responsible and caring individuals.

We’ve talked a lot about bystanders and upstanders—what these roles mean and how to take action in a kind and supportive way when someone needs help. These conversations have been inspiring, and the kids have shared fantastic ideas about standing up for what’s right.

In the kitchen, they’ve been learning how to safely use tools and equipment, building skills and confidence while understanding the importance of responsibility.

Year 5

Our Year 5 students have been learning how to take control of their digital habits, especially when using games and social media. They’ve practiced strategies like setting boundaries and making thoughtful choices online.

We’ve also talked about building a positive digital culture—thinking critically about the images we see online and how they influence us. The students have shared great ideas on how to contribute to respectful and kind online spaces.

Finally, we’ve explored privacy settings and discussed why it’s important to protect personal information. It’s been amazing to see them think deeply about the potential consequences of their online choices.

Year 6

Our Year 6 students have been hard at work in the Innovation and Design classroom, showing remarkable creativity and determination! This term, students had the exciting opportunity to choose between two engaging projects: coding their own Scratch programs or creating intricate origami designs.

Those working on Scratch projects explored coding concepts such as loops, conditionals, and variables to develop interactive games and animations. Their projects showcase impressive problem-solving skills and imaginative storytelling!

Meanwhile, our budding origami designers applied the design process to craft detailed and creative paper art. From v-pleats to parabolic folds, their attention to detail and persistence in mastering challenging techniques have been inspiring to see.

We are so proud of their efforts and enthusiasm for exploring these innovative fields. The finished projects truly highlight the talents of our Year 6 students. Well done, everyone—you are shining examples of creative thinking!
