Physical Education

Purpose

A well balanced, comprehensive physical education program contributes to students becoming self - confident, disciplined, healthy, and fit.

 

Physical education gives the opportunity to develop: 

• Respect for our bodies as a unique gift of God's creation, and to develop respect for the performance of ourselves and others as we impose demands on them 

• Physically, with regards to skill proficiency, agility, flexibility, strength, speed and endurance 

• A healthy perspective toward competition, in that the activity isfor the enjoyment of "all", and to develop respect for the efforts of others regardless of their ability 

• Social skills within sport 

• Knowledge of body processes, basic anatomy and physiology, and the relationships of physical fitness to healthy living, as well as knowledge of fundamental rules and strategies associated with games and activities.

Structure and Content

The course is formulated with a view to preparing students for VCE Physical Education Units 1-4, as well as providing students with a variety of experiences in physical activity. The course structure consists of 2 periods of practical application and 1 period of theoretical application per week. Both components of the course are closely related and designed to complement each other.
