Computing

Purpose
Computing focuses on the processing and management of information to solve a range of individual and societal problems. The computer has become a vital tool for learning, research, communicating, managing and presenting information. It is integral to all subject areas in this College and many industries as well. In fact, a knowledge of coding is becoming more and more important. This subject is for all students, ranging from those who have never done any programming through to those who consider themselves programmers already.
The aims of the computing elective are to:
• Help students understand and appreciate their calling to learn and communicate creatively, using the range of IT techniques and processes available
• Provide opportunities for students to build on and extend their repertoire of computing skills
• Develop a foundation for VCE Computing courses for those who wish to choose this focus.
Structure and Content
The course covers both theoretical knowledge and practical application of skills. Students will be expected to apply the four stages of the problem-solving methodology (analysis, design, development, and evaluation) in order to:
• Develop a website using HTML and CSS
• Develop relational database solutions to solve information problems
• Develop algorithmic solutions to problems and coding with Python.
