Grade 1 has been discussing Gravity and Buoyancy.
We have been having fun with balls and ballons and tubs of water. Some children even tested Mr. Archimedes' theory in their bathtubs at home!
Last week some children drew their understanding of gravity on the whiteboard.
Grade two have been investigating how sound travels and in which direction it travels. They have also been keen to understand how echos are created, even when outside in an open area. Sound travels forward in waves, and in straight lines. The waves continue unless they bounce off something (echo) or until they eventually get smaller and fade away.
Gade 3 and 4 have continued to explore the properties and force of magnitism, and in particular where the magnetic field is the strongest.
Grade 5 have been investigating how shadows are made, and how we classify light as being seen through translucent, transparent and opaque objects. We will continue these investigations this week and work towards our assessment task in the last week of term.
Grade 6 continued to investigate electricity as a form of energy. They spent some time last week discussing and learning about different energy sources, and also learning about Alessandro Volta.
Alessandro Volta’s original cell battery, the voltaic pile, was developed in 1799.
A voltaic pile is made of discs of two different metals, such as copper and zinc, separated with cloth soaked in a chemical solution. Volta’s battery was the first continuous and reproducible source of an electrical current.
We will also work towards an assessment task at the end of the term.
