Grade 6 News

This term, our Year 6 students have shown incredible dedication and enthusiasm as they’ve trained and competed in interschool sports, focusing on football and netball.
Their hard work is all in preparation for the much-anticipated Winter School Sports Carnival, which will take place on Wednesday, 25th June.
At the carnival, selected students will proudly represent St Bernard’s in a variety of sports, including Soccer, Netball, Tee Ball, and Football. We’re excited to see their skills and sportsmanship on display. More information about the event and team selections will be shared with families soon.
In the classroom, students have been equally engaged in their academic pursuits. During Literacy, they’ve been exploring the text Free Diving, a powerful narrative that has sparked rich discussions and learning.
Through this text, students have delved into the history and culture of pearl diving in Broome, Western Australia, including the significant Aboriginal contributions to the industry and the dangers faced by divers in the past.
This unit has deepened their understanding of both historical and cultural perspectives.
In Mathematics, students have been working through a unit on adding and subtracting decimals, with a strong emphasis on developing flexible thinking and mental strategies. They’ve been encouraged to approach problems in multiple ways, enhancing their confidence and fluency with numbers.
It’s been a vibrant and productive term so far, and we look forward to celebrating the students’ achievements both on and off the field as we head toward the carnival and the end of the term.
