Grade 4 News

The teachers in Year 4 have been very busy revising and reviewing the work of the students in order to prepare reports. It’s always fascinating to look at where the children began their year at school and see where they are at halfway through their year’s journey through their grade level.
During these past two weeks, the classes have had an interesting time ‘reading’ one of Shaun Tan’s books, The Arrival. The novel is wordless and takes a lot of work to carefully interpret the pictures, tiny vignettes and large, big picture scenes and bring the story together. The man in the story is a migrant and we experience the strangeness and friendships he finds as he makes his way in a new country.
In Maths we have been graphing data using a variety of data sets. This was great practise for this weeks’ Geography task of graphing the weather and temperature of last May.
It has been interesting for the children to make the connection between climate and those natural and human features that exist within the various climates. We have come to the conclusion that our cool temperate climate has not been consistently behaving like a cool
temperature climate. What do you think?
