Principal's message

Come, Holy Spirit
Come, Holy Spirit, fill our hearts with your love and grace.
Guide us in our daily lives and help us to follow God's will.
Give us wisdom to make good choices, courage to face challenges, and strength to overcome difficulties.
Fill us with your peace and joy and help us to share your love with others.
May your presence be with us always, leading us closer to God and helping us to grow in faith.
Amen.

MAGNIFY SANDHURST
Catholic Education Sandhurst rolled out Magnify Sandhurst, an evidence-informed, science of learning school improvement initiative, to its 51 Catholic schools across the Sandhurst Diocese at the beginning of 2025.
Magnify Sandhurst focuses on how the brain learns, how literacy is effectively taught, uses a low variance, knowledge-rich curriculum and the creation of positive classrooms. Our practice is calm, predictable, and repeatable to maximise learning time in all classrooms. Magnify Sandhurst is deliberately bold and wide-ranging, generating whole-of-system improvement.
What is the Science of Learning?
In Week 1 of Term 2, all staff across our diocese took part in three days of rich professional learning with Dr Jared Cooney Horvath, focusing on the Science of Learning. Throughout the rest of 2025, we will be sharing regular insights and reflections for families to consider, with the hope that these shared understandings can strengthen the partnership between school and home in support of each child’s
learning journey.
To begin, it’s important we clarify what we mean when we say the Science of Learning.
The Science of Learning is a growing field of research that helps us – as educators and parents – understand how human beings learn most effectively. Drawing on evidence from neuroscience, psychology, linguistics, education, artificial intelligence and philosophy, it offers us practical, research- informed strategies that support learning, build memory, and develop expertise.
These “best bets” can be applied not only in classrooms, but in homes and everyday life – supporting children and adults alike to keep learning, growing and thriving.
In the meantime, if you would like to learn a little more about the science of learning, please see the following link - science of learning basics in 3 minutes
Wednesday Pupil free day CLASSROOM MASTERY
Tomorrow is a pupil free day, and our staff will work with staff from St. Augustine's Wodonga and St. Joseph's Chiltern. The day will be facilitated by Classroom Mastery in partnership with the Knowledge Society.
Classroom Mastery provides leaders and teachers with the knowledge, skills and strategies they need to create classroom behaviours and school culture that foster positive learning environments for all students.
On Wednesday our staff will unpack the strategies, structures and mindset shifts that create calm, predictable classrooms where learning thrives for our children.
Our staff will work with Classroom Mastery to embed the consistent, evidence-informed behaviour routines across our school that are foundational to teaching and learning.
Our staff will refine the classroom routines like “entry”, “exit” and “cue to start” in order to avoid low level disruptions that impact achievement for our students.
Feast of Sacred Heart
The Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is a special day in the Catholic Church that celebrates Jesus' immense love for everyone.
The Sacred Heart of Jesus is a symbol that shows how much Jesus loves us. It's often pictured as a heart with a crown of thorns, flames, and a cross. Each part has a special meaning:
- Heart: Represents Jesus' love for all people.
- Crown of Thorns: Shows the suffering Jesus went through for us.
- Flames: Symbolize the burning love Jesus has for everyone.
The Feast of the Sacred Heart reminds us of Jesus' love and kindness. It helps us remember that Jesus is always there for us, ready to listen and help, just like a best friend. A special element of the feast of the Sacred Heart is our showing love to others.
We do this to help the St. Patrick's Conference of St. Vincent de Paul, collect and distribute new blankets for those in Wangaratta who are not as fortunate as we are by providing warmth for them.
We will launch our St. Vinnies winter appeal on Friday by inviting everyone to wear a splash of red & bring a gold coin donation. You may choose to wear a red bow, red socks, red scarf, red beanie, etc (no red hair colouring or face paint).
Please do not buy anything red to wear, rather donate the money to school for the purchase of blankets for the appeal.
Congratulations
Congratulations to the students who participated in the regional cross country and in particular to those who will be heading off to the state championships in July, Oscar, Jack, Jaxon, Lola, Sylvia, Carter and Ryan.
