This Week at OSHC – Creativity, Courage and Community
This week has been filled with moments that reminded us just how thoughtful, creative, and empathy children can be. During our craft sessions, many children challenged themselves with complex pipe cleaner designs like jellyfish and even a detailed rabbit. While the activity was tricky, it brought out the best in the group —children patiently guided others, and encouraged each other with words like, “You can do it!” and “We don’t give up!”.
Meanwhile, preparations for our big Singing Contest on Thursday have sparked excitement across the service. Children have been forming teams, making posters, designing stage props, practicing dances and sharing ideas! Their teamwork, confidence, and creativity have truly brought this project to life.
Outdoors, the children have been just as enthusiastic. Games like footy, police and robbers, and ring toss have seen kids of all ages come together, inviting one another to join and showing true inclusiveness. Many children shared their talents — from gymnastics to storytelling — and even encouraged staff to give it a try. One child, after many failed ring toss attempts, proudly said, “I wasn’t good at first, but now I’m great at it!” When I replied, “See? Practice makes everything better,” he nodded and said, “As long as you don’t give up, and believe in yourself, you’ll get there.”Spending time with the children, we’re constantly reminded of how many surprising qualities they hold. One child, during a thoughtful conversation, shared something that left a lasting impression: “If you can’t change things, you can always change yourself and be better. Then, you become your own boss.” Their words were full of inspiration and wisdom far beyond their years — a reminder that in every child, there is a leader, a thinker, and a dreamer. These everyday moments may seem small, but they reflect something big — a strong, caring community where children lift each other up, grow through challenges, and discover their own strengths.
