Weekend Recreational Activities

Kambala Boarders Reach New Heights!

On Sunday 15th June, the Kambala Boarders swapped their books for harnesses and courage as they took on an exciting rock climbing challenge. The Rec outing was not only a chance to test their physical strength but also a fantastic opportunity to build confidence, resilience, and teamwork.

For many girls, this was their very first experience on the climbing wall. With nerves turning into excitement, they learned how to set personal goals, overcome fears, and cheer each other on to reach the top. Laughter, encouragement, and determination filled the air as everyone gave their best effort — whether scaling the beginner routes or bravely attempting the more challenging climbs.

Beyond the physical challenge, the day was a great reminder of the power of support and friendship. The girls encouraged each other with every step, celebrated every small victory, and left with a shared sense of achievement.

We love seeing our Boarders embrace these opportunities to try new things, step outside their comfort zones, and create memories that will last far beyond the school gates.

Well done to all who participated — we can’t wait to see where your courage takes you next!

Boarder Birthdays

Eva and Layla (Yr 10) share a dorm and a birthday together on June 11th. It was wonderful that both girls could go out for the night to celebrate with family and friends who visited from home. Happy birthday Eva and Layla!

Saturday Sport

Week 6 was the King's Birthday long weekend so our boarding students had a break from sports.

Sporting Spirit in Week 7

Week 7 was packed with sport and fresh air as the girls hit the fields and courts for Hockey, Netball, Basketball, and Soccer.

Kambala Hockey Team Showed True Grit in Semi-Final Clash

On Saturday, the Kambala hockey team, made up predominantly of boarders, took to the field for their division semi-final against Loretto School. Despite facing tough odds from the outset, with only 10 players and no substitutes compared to Loretto’s full team and bench, the Kambala girls delivered a performance full of heart and determination.

Year 12 students Polly and Zanna worked brilliantly up front, combining skill and strategy to create several strong scoring opportunities in the first half, including one just after the half-time buzzer. Kambala trailed 1–0 at the break, but the team returned to the field with renewed intensity.

Frankie in Year 11 was outstanding at fullback, repelling wave after wave of Loretto attacks, while Sophie and Poppy played a crucial role in linking the defence to the forwards. With just two minutes remaining, Kambala came agonisingly close to equalising, only to be denied as the final hooter sounded.

Though the match ended in a narrow 1–0 loss, the team’s performance. Their resilience, teamwork, and fighting spirit are a credit to Kambala, well played, girls!

While it may have been a non-winning streak for most teams this weekend, the energy, effort and good spirits still ran high. The girls all had a great time being out and active with their teams.

A special shoutout to Sonya’s (Yr 8) netball team, who came away with a 10–6 win and also to Jackie H and Jenny (Yr 11) for their win.

We’re proud of all the girls for giving it their all and showing such great sportsmanship across the board.

Events

Year 7 & 12 Fluro Night

Friday night’s annual Year 7 and Year 12 Fluro Night was once again a standout event on the Kambala calendar—bursting with energy, colour, and connection. This much-loved tradition brings together our newest and most senior students for a night of fun, friendship, and unforgettable memories.

It was a full-circle moment for our Year 12 girls, who fondly recalled attending Fluro Night themselves as fresh-faced Year 7s six years ago. Now, stepping confidently into their leadership roles, they embraced the opportunity to welcome and mentor the next generation of Kambala students.

The evening was filled with excitement, laughter, and a strong sense of community. From glow sticks to neon face paint, the girls embraced the theme with enthusiasm—but it was the “Rave Cave” that stole the show, creating a vibrant and joyful atmosphere where everyone could let loose and dance the night away.

Fluro Night continues to be a highlight of Term 2, fostering genuine bonds between our Year 7s and 12s and reminding us all of the powerful connections that define the Kambala spirit.

Eleanor

We want to extend a big thank you to our wonderful GAP student, Eleanor, for all she has contributed to the Kambala Boarding House over the past year.

Eleanor has been a kind and calming presence for our girls—always willing to lend a hand, share a smile, and offer support when needed. She quickly became known for her exceptional sewing skills, often mending uniforms and helping with creative projects, as well as her enthusiastic involvement in our much-loved theme nights.

We are delighted that this is not goodbye just yet! Eleanor will be staying in Sydney as she begins her university studies and, to our great joy, will continue working with us in the Boarding House. We look forward to many more shared memories, laughs, and late-night sewing sessions.

Thank you, Eleanor, for your warmth, generosity, and dedication. We’re so lucky to have you as part of our boarding community.

Eleanor’s time at Kambala has been marked by connection, adventure, and community. Reflecting on her Gap Year, she recalls a clear highlight—the unforgettable trip to New Zealand’s South Island.

“The best trip during my time here was when I went to the South Island of NZ in a campervan for two weeks with the Gap students from Ascham,” Eleanor shared. “Since then, I’ve formed really strong friendships with so many great Gappies from other schools.”

Beyond the travel and fun, it’s the Kambala community that has left a lasting impression. “It’s a wonderful community to be part of,” she says. “I’m looking forward to coming back as a Boarding Supervisor.”

Eleanor’s journey is a testament to the lifelong connections and opportunities that grow from a Gap Year well spent, both on the road and right here at Kambala.

Prep Time

Over the past fortnight, the girls have been working hard during prep, showing great focus and commitment. We continue to encourage them to make the most of the support available, especially from our fantastic A Team Tutors and Boarding Staff who are always willing to help.

While some students are working on assessments, it’s a great reminder that prep is also the perfect time for revision, reading, planning, and staying on top of general study. Our tutors work hard to support the girls, and we’re proud of the effort and attitude we’ve seen across all year groups.

Well done also to the Year 11 and 12’s who have had exams and who have worked through several practice exams in the past week.
