Bradford Program 2025
Last week, our 2025 Bradford Pathway Program participants were given the special opportunity to meet Roger and Lesley Gillespie, whose generous funding through their family foundation has made this program possible.
The Bradford Shepparton Program supports Year 11 students from Term 4 and continues through Year 12, offering a fortnightly mentoring program with La Trobe University students and staff. Participants also attend an intensive university introduction day, wellbeing and parent engagement workshops, and academic capacity-building activities.
Students enrolled in the program receive an early conditional offer to La Trobe University and may access financial support if required. The program is designed to inspire, inform and encourage students to see higher education as an achievable goal.
The Shepparton program is part of a broader initiative to improve educational outcomes and opportunities for regional students, ensuring that no matter where you’re from, university is within reach.
Funding from the Gillespie Family Foundation was instrumental in launching the Bradford Shepparton Pathway Program, named in honour of the late Audrey May Gillespie (née Bradford), mother of La Trobe alumnus and Bakers Delight co-founder Roger Gillespie.
During their visit last week, Roger and Lesley spoke with students about their dreams and aspirations, and the power of education to create change. They also presented the current cohort with Bradford hoodies, and students had the chance to personally thank the Gillespies for their continued support.
Also a big thank you to La Trobe Uni and all the other sponsors involved, this program wouldn't be able to provide so much support for our students without them.

Year 12 Pathway Mentor Session – Wisdom from Those Who’ve Walked the Walk!
With just 10 weeks left of Year 12 (yes, it’s getting real!), our students were treated to an inspiring session featuring three former GSSC legends who’ve been there, done that and come back to share their stories.
These awesome alumni shared their journeys post-Year 12, offering real talk, great advice, and a dose of reassurance that the future doesn’t have to be set in stone.
Massive thanks to our amazing panel of past students:
- Sophie Ahmet – 2024 GSSC Trainee, now hitting the books in Melbourne studying a Bachelor of Education at La Trobe University
- Nick Brereton – Program Officer with Geared4Careers, supporting students just like you
- Marnie Owen – Project Officer at the Greater Shepparton Lighthouse Project, helping light the way for others
Top Takeaways from the Panel:
- Use your study time wisely but don’t forget to live a little! Socialise, connect, and enjoy the ride.
- It’s totally okay not to have it all figured out.
- Your path might change and that’s normal!
- Look after your mental health. Breaks are part of the process.
- Your ATAR is just a number there are many ways to get where you want to go.
- Soak up every moment of these final weeks you’ll only finish Year 12 once!
A huge shoutout to our speakers for taking time out of their busy schedules to pass on some great advice.
