SELC Transition Day

On June 3 and 4, the College proudly welcomed 28 students from the Shepparton English Language Centre (SELC) for a successful transition program ahead of their official start in Semester 2.

14 students from Years 7, 8, and 9 visited on Monday, June 3, followed by another 14 Year 10 students on Tuesday, June 4. The transition sessions were designed to help students feel comfortable and connected before beginning their time here.

A special thank you goes to Amy Gallacher, Kathryn Hocking, and Delilah Brannelly for their outstanding work in organising and coordinating the SELC transition sessions. Their planning ensured a smooth, welcoming, and informative experience for all students involved.

The program included an information PowerPoint, a school tour, and a “Getting to Know You” worksheet from the transition booklet. Each SELC student was also paired with a buddy who guided them through their designated Neighbourhood, introduced them to key staff members including Neighbourhood Assistants (NAs), Wellbeing staff, and Library staff and helped them become familiar with the school environment.

Students also had their Compass photos taken in preparation for their first official days at GSSC on June 4 and 5. Support for the students was strong, with Multicultural Liaison Officers, Multicultural Student Leaders, and members of the GSSC leadership team present to welcome the new students and help them feel part of the school community.

These transition sessions are a vital part of ensuring that our newest students feel confident, supported, and excited as they join our diverse and inclusive school.

We look forward to seeing the SELC students thrive here at GSSC in Semester 2.
