YEAR 3/4 GEELONG CATS AFLW VISIT
Yesterday, our Year 3 and 4 students had a special treat when two players from the Geelong Cats AFL Women’s team visited our school.
The players—Kate Kenny and Chantel Mason —spoke about their journey to the AFLW, the importance of teamwork, resilience, and living a healthy lifestyle. They also gave students a behind-the-scenes look into life as an elite athlete, including their training routines and game-day preparations.
The highlight for many students was the hands-on clinic that followed, where the Cats stars led the group through a series of drills and games.
We’d like to thank the Geelong Cats AFLW team for their time and generosity. It was an unforgettable experience that inspired our young learners to stay active, work hard, and dream big.
THE BEADED TIMELINE/PERSONAL TIMELINE - 5B
Written by - Kirsten McKay Candian Visitor
To introduce the class to the Indigenous People of Canada, I brought over a visual timeline made of beads to showcase how long indigenous people have been on the land called North America. I showed a video that had a Metis story keeper, who came up with the beaded timeline, tell the reason why she came up with it. It was a visual way to represent nearly 14,000 years of oral history. I spoke about how the Indigenous People were struggling to be seen as the original people of the land since time immemorial due to our culture being an oral culture, meaning that we didn't have a written history as "proof" that we are the first inhabitants of the land that settlers were trying to claim.
To make it a little more personal, I had the students create their own paper chain timeline. Students were given enough paper strips for their age, a few papers were coloured and students were to write a life changing event, like a birth of a sibling or moving to a new city on those papers. After everyone had completed their chain, we connected them all as a class chain.
NATIONAL FAMILY READING MONTH
This past month, our school has been buzzing with books, reading, and family fun—and we’re so proud of everything we’ve done together!
One big highlight was our School Book Fair. Thanks to all of you who visited, browsed, and bought books, we raised an incredible $400 for our school!
Another awesome event was the Family Reading Challenge. Families were encouraged to read a book together every night—and so many of you took part but we would love more to participate next year!
Reading is one of the best things we can do. It helps us learn, imagine, and grow—and it’s even better when we do it together.
Congratulations to our winners:
🏆 Deyasha Gumbo – 2A
🏆 Makayla Norval – 6C
Keep turning those pages and enjoying the magic of books, every day.
ART AT WARRNAMBOOL PRIMARY
Spot the long, slithering paper dragon one of our Year 2 artists has been bringing to life!
Piece by piece, it stretched across the table. Watching it take shape reminded us how collage invites us to build stories from scraps, layering colours, shapes and textures to turn simple materials into something truly magical.
Each week, Miss Ryan will be sharing glimpses into our art room adventures, from student creations to the stories and creative sparks behind them.
It’s a celebration of the imagination, colour and community that fills the WPS art space.
We're so proud of how our young artists experiment, express themselves and lift each other up through their art.
A High-Energy Assembly!
Today we had a fantastic visit from DNA HipHop Fitness and Aerobics during our school assembly! Our students were captivated and full of excitement as they watched an incredible performance filled with music, movement, and energy.
The students absolutely loved the show and left inspired and smiling.
A huge THANK YOU to the DNA crew for bringing such a positive and uplifting experience to our school!
