Visit from Bronwyn Halfpenny
A great way to start the week by having a visit from our local Member Bronwyn Halfpenny. at assembly. Bronwyn came to present the school with three new flags as our flags were looking very tatty around the edges because of the wind and rain. Hassan, Ray and Mohsen, our flag monitors, were very happy to take charge of our new flags!
The boys have been doing a wonderful job remembering to put the flags out each Monday and bring them in on Friday afternoon. I also love how respectful the boys are when handling the flags by remembering not to let them touch the ground and ensuring they are flying the correct way on the flag pole.
Our student leaders, Yousef, Artin, Zoe, Aleena and Banin, also took the opportunity to speak to Bronwyn after assembly and present her with a letter detailing their concerns about our library and how they would love additional funds be allocated to the school so the library can be rebuilt.
I love how proactive our leaders are and how important it is to them to make a positive difference in our community. It makes me feel that our world is in good hands!
Staffing Updates
At the start of this term we welcomed Bianca Vecchio to our staff. Bianca will run or art program until the end of the year. Bianca has settled in well and is very impressed with the skills and behaviour of our students. I am looking forward to seeing their art pieces over the next few months.
This week we say farewell to Natalie Iverson and Angela Pobjoy from the 1/2 team. Natalie will be commencing her Family Leave starting Friday and will be absent the next year while she cares for her new baby. We will look forward to sharing the details of the newest member of the Iverson family once he arrives.
Angela will be taking some leave in term 3 but plans to return to us in term 4.
We look forward to welcoming Vanessa Omerhodic as the new teacher in the 1/2 learning space. Vanessa will be working with Natalie and Angela this week so we can facilitate a smooth handover between Nat/Ange and Vanessa. Vanessa will be attending the interviews with Natalie and Angela on Thursday.
This week we also said goodbye to Jake Hall from the Smith Family. Jake will still be working for The Smith Family but is moving to a different region due to some restructuring. We are sorry to see Jake move on as he has been a wonderful advocate for the LEPS families and has been an absolute delight to work with. Vicky, will be taking Jake's place
Big Week of Celebrations!
This week I was lucky to be part of two big celebrations, my 35 Years of Service award and Principal's Day. Both were memorable and heart warming occasions. Tuesday night I celebrated 35 years of working for the Department of Education. Luckily, Mary Ryan, who I worked with when I started at LEPS was also celebrating her 35 years of Service so that added to the celebrations.
On Friday, Scott and I celebrated Principal's Day with our incredible students and wonderful staff. We were both blown away by the thoughtfulness of the messages from our students. There is nowhere else I would rather work! Although I am not sure Scott and I will be able to live up to the students' expectations that we both work at LEPS for the rest of our lives!!! LOL!
I will be taking a little leave from Thursday 7 August to have a small surgery on my shoulder. I am not sure how long I will need to have away from work, hopefully not too long! Scott will be in charge during my absence.
Thanks Ivy - you are a super star!!
A special shout out to Ivy from 3/4B who generously donated four Wolf Girl books to the school so we could complete this popular series. Ivy used her own money after doing chores at home to purchase the books for us. Everyone will enjoy reading them once Nat has processed them.
