In Our Classrooms

Congratulations!
We’re proud to share that Iliesa N from Year 6 has been selected for the U12 Rugby League School Sport Victoria (SSV) Team – Team VIC! Iliesa will be travelling to Queensland today for an 8-day competition, representing Victoria alongside his teammates. We wish him the very best in this exciting opportunity – go Team VIC and congratulations Iliesa!
Kids First
Our Year 5 and 6 students have begun their classroom sessions with Kids First. Kids First facilitators, Shardae and Hayley have worked closely with the Classroom Teachers to deliver the first sessions of the 'All About Safety' program. Students have learnt about The United Nations and children's human rights and the difference between rights and privileges. They have also explored how their body physically reacts when they are feeling unsafe. To help support and strengthen this program, you can speak to your child about the program and discuss some of the learnings they took from the sessions.
Respectful Relationships: Term 3
This term in our classrooms, the students will be learning about Help Seeking. Students will be learning activities in this topic area that are designed to help them discuss the importance of seeking help and providing peer support when dealing with problems that are too big to solve alone. There will be scenario-based activities that help students identify situations in which help should be sought, identify trusted sources of help, and practice seeking help from peers and adults.
Students will also be learning about Positive Relations using age-appropriate teaching and learning materials. Activities within this topic focus on building an understanding of respectful relationships. Students will be developing the skills needed to solve problems, set boundaries within their relationships, and play an active role in practising safe and respectful behaviours in family, peer, community and online relationships.
Perceptual Motor Program
This week, we launched the Perceptual Motor Program in the Primary Years. Our Prep and Year 1 Students had their first session of the program and will continue to complete a session a week with their teacher.
The Perceptual Motor Program (PMP) is a movement-based program that aims to develop children's perceptions and understanding of how to move safely and appropriately in the space around them. This is achieved by immersing them in activities that promote eye/hand and eye/foot coordination, fitness, balance, locomotion, visual tracking, concentration, attention and language skills, whilst building confidence to try new things. Our students were challenged in their first session and had lots of fun. We cannot wait to see their progress in this program.
House Performing Arts
Preparations for one of our biggest events of the year have begun, with students rehearsing weekly with their House for House Performing Arts. House Leaders have selected a music list that reflects this year’s theme of "Connection."
During the first two rehearsals of the term, students learned about their House patrons, practised chants, listened to their performance music, and began working together to learn their dance.
We can’t wait to see these performances in Week 9! Further information, including costume details, will be shared with parents via Compass closer to the event.
Sustainability Update
Hi, my name is Mrs. V, and at the beginning of the year, I took over the sustainability leadership role for Primary Years.
The sustainability leadership role is about keeping the school clean and tidy in regards to cleaning up around the school, from the recycling bins to keeping our school grounds clean and helping students to care for the environment that they have at school. The initiative was to have students helping with this by using buckets and tongs at recess and lunch time, and if they were to do this, they received a positive Chronicle for responsibility which also equals five house points.
It has been overwhelming to see the students care for their school and want to pick up rubbish during recess and lunch time, and I hope this continues for years to come.
The house points are now displayed near the sick-bay entrance in the primary years learning neighbourhood one and I love that students are coming to see how many house points their house has and the excitement around this is wonderful to see. Total positive chronicles received so far this year have been more than 1500. We are proud of our students for taking pride in their school.
