Principal's Report - Mr Pitt

Dear Parents/ Carers,

Welcome to the Term 3, Week 8 edition of the newsletter. The term is going by so quickly and there’s still so much more to come. Everyone is getting excited about the Fairvale Festival. We have dancing, drama, national parks class videos and the choir performing. Tickets have been on sale for parents to purchase from the office verandah. From today, all parents and friends can purchase additional tickets to the matinee and night show on Wednesday 20 September, 2023. As a special treat, all non-performers in Years 3 to 6 are invited to attend the matinee performance – the school will cover the cost of the bus. Notes were sent last week.

EMERGENCY AND LOCKDOWN DRILLS

Each year schools in NSW take part in mandatory emergency evacuation and lockdown drills. During this time all members on site must adhere to school policies and procedures. Last week our school participated in an emergency drill practice. We now have the Work Health and Safety Project Team, under the leadership of Mrs Sheppard, School Business Manager, evaluating the effectiveness of the emergency procedures at our school.

BIKE VISITS WITH MR PITT

This last fortnight I visited one class and two wellbeing programs.

K CRADLE MOUNTAIN – On Thursday I spent some time visiting KC during an InitiaLit lesson. Mr Carbone was putting new words onto the board and asking students to use the sound knowledge to say the words. The next step was for the children to write some of the words on a mini-board. I was impressed with everyone’s work. I also loved how some of the children were able to read and write their own sentence.

WELLBEING I had great visit to the ‘wellbeing cottage’ last week. Firstly, I spent time with Mrs Bruzzese and 1J where they took on mini-hospital roles. Children were doctors, nurses, patients and receptionists – they used their knowledge of the FAIR Core Capabilities to engage in conversation with their peers. I also visited Miss Marjanac and the Unicorn Squad we spoke about qualities of a good friend and that ability to share your sparkle around. I was lucky enough to be an honorary member of the Unicorn Squad.

It was so pleasing to see just two wellbeing programs sigh as focus on connection, kindness and role-play.  Check out some of my pics in this edition of the school newsletter.

FATHER’S DAY

I am hoping all our Dads, Grandfathers, Uncles and big Brothers all had a lovely Father’s Day last Sunday. I am sure you loved the gift you received as well. A very big thank you to our Mums from Parent Group who attended last week to assist at the Father’s Day Stall – it is much appreciated by the whole community. Thank you also to Miss Michelle and Miss Samira for coordinating the stall as I know there is quite a lot of planning that goes on to ensure these days run smoothly.

ROAD SAFETY

This a message for pedestrians who use Sackville Street. This street is always busy no matter what time of the day and it is extremely dangerous to see and hear that some Fairvale children cross this street by themselves or even with an adult. I would urge all pedestrians to use the set of lights on Cathcart Street every morning and afternoon. Please stop crossing Sackville Street, be safe and sensible.
