Principal's Message

Staffing Update

It is with mixed emotions that we bid farewell to a beloved member of our school community, School Chaplain, Chezelle Conroy. For nearly 13 years, she has been an integral part of our close-knit community, offering guidance, support, and care to all who have crossed her path. As we approach the end of this year, Chezelle has made the difficult decision to step away from her role as our school chaplain.

Throughout her time at Launch, Chezelle has been an unwavering pillar of strength and a source of comfort for our students, parents, and staff alike. She has shared in our joys, triumphs, and celebrations, and has been a source of solace during times of hardship and sorrow. Her presence and kind words have often been a source of inspiration to us all.

Chezelle has been a friend, a confidant, and a source of unwavering support. Her compassion, dedication, and the genuine care she has shown to our school community are qualities that will be sorely missed. She has been there to lend a listening ear, to offer words of wisdom, and to provide a sense of calm in the midst of life's storms.

The impact that Chezelle has had on our lives cannot be overstated. Her work has extended far beyond the walls of that tiny Chaplain’s office. She has played a significant role in shaping the values and principles that define our school's character, emphasizing the importance of compassion, understanding, and kindness.

We invite all members of the school community to join us in a farewell gathering to celebrate Chezelle's contributions and express our gratitude. Details about the event will be shared in the coming weeks.  Farewell, Chezelle, and thank you for being an extraordinary part of our Launch family.

We're excited to share that Jacqui Eycken, our Business Manager has accepted a one-year promotion at a neighbouring school, marking a significant career achievement. While we'll miss her, we extend our congratulations and anticipate her successful journey.  The Department of Education’s SASH team will oversee our finances and oversee other aspects of the Business Manager role during her absence. We eagerly await Jacqui’s return in late 2024. Best wishes!

Supporting Indigenous Students: Nurturing Unity after the Referendum

In the wake of the recent 'no' result in the referendum, we want to assure our students and families that Launch PS remains committed to providing a supportive and inclusive environment. While the outcome may be disheartening for some, it's crucial that our students continue to feel valued and respected within our school community.

Our dedication to fostering a sense of belonging and support for all students is unwavering. Here's how we plan to ensure their well-being:

1. Open Dialogue and Listening: We encourage open and respectful dialogue within our school community. We will actively listen to the concerns and experiences of Indigenous students to ensure their voices are heard and valued.

2. Emotional Support: Our School Chaplain is available to provide emotional support and guidance to any student who may be affected by the outcome. Students are encouraged to reach out if they need assistance or a safe space to discuss their feelings.

3. Cultural Education: We will continue our commitment to enhancing cultural education. This includes incorporating Indigenous perspectives into our curriculum, celebrating Indigenous cultures, and organizing events that promote cultural awareness.

4. Parental Involvement: We encourage parents to be active partners in their child's education and emotional well-being. Your input and involvement are invaluable to us.

At Launching Place PS, we believe in the power of unity, empathy, and understanding. We are committed to providing an environment where all students, regardless of their background, can flourish academically and emotionally. As a community, it's our responsibility to learn from our differences and grow together.

Dive into the Fun: Upcoming Swimming Program

We're thrilled to announce our upcoming Swimming Program, an exciting opportunity for students to make a splash, learn valuable water skills, and stay active! Here are the details:

Who: Prep to Year 2 students and Year 3 - 6 students

When: Prep to Year 2 students attend 10 sessions over two weeks (Monday 13th November – Friday 24th November), and Year 3 - 6 students attend 5 sessions over one week (Monday 30th October – Friday 3rd November).

Cost: The cost is just $20 per child for the entire program.

Thanks to government funding and grants, we are able to highly subsidize the cost of this program, making it an affordable opportunity for all our students. This program not only promotes water safety but also encourages physical activity and confidence in the water.

It's a fantastic way for students to cool off during the warmer months and acquire valuable swimming skills. The Yarra Centres’ experienced instructors will ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants.

Registrations are now open! Please give permission and organise payment through Compass. We encourage all students to join in the aquatic fun.

Peer Requests – 2024 Classes

As we approach the new school year in 2024, we are giving you the opportunity to help us shape your child's classroom experience by providing peer requests. This process allows you to share your insights on who your child learns best with and, just as importantly, who they might benefit from having a break from.

Peer requests can have a meaningful impact on your child's classroom dynamics and learning environment. It's essential to consider the following factors when making your request:

Who Does Your Child Learn Well With?

- Think about friendships and learning compatibility. Who are the classmates your child collaborates with effectively and enjoys studying alongside?

Who Might They Need a Break From?

- Consider social dynamics and any potential conflicts. Are there classmates with whom your child may benefit from a change of seating arrangement for a more harmonious learning atmosphere?

While we value your input, please keep in mind the following:

- Peer requests are not guaranteed, as class assignments are ultimately made by the school to create balanced and inclusive classrooms.

- Please maintain a positive and considerate approach when suggesting changes. Our aim is to foster a supportive and respectful learning environment for all students.

To submit your peer requests, please send a brief email to laura.caddy@education.vic.gov.au by Friday 3rd November.

We appreciate your collaboration in ensuring that every child's classroom experience is positive and conducive to their growth and development. If you have any questions or require further information, please don't hesitate to reach out to the school office.

Let's work together to make 2024 a successful and enriching year for all our students.
