Principal's Report

FAMILY FUN DAY AND COLOUR RUN!

On Sunday 29th October, from 12pm - 3:30pm, Gardenvale Primary School will be hosting a fun-filled whole school event on the Senior School campus.

The Grand Final of 'Gardenvale's Got Talent' will be held and students will be showcasing their amazing singing and dancing talents.

In the Multi-Purpose Centre, there will be a whole school Art EXPO, celebrating the amazing accomplishments of students from Prep to Year 6. Throughout Term 3, the students completed tasks showcasing their skills in threads and textiles, painting, clay, collage, drawing, printing and mixed media on the theme, “Let’s Face It!” There will be nearly 1000 pieces of artwork on display and the level of excellence has to be seen to be believed! The display can also be viewed on Monday 30th October, from 8.30am - 4pm, for families who are unable to attend Sunday’s event.

Performances by the GPS dance troupe, Rhythm Nation and the Senior Choir are also planned, which will be another highlight on the day.

A Sausage Sizzle, Cake Stall, Lolly Stall and a Colour Crazy Store, (which will provide some great accessory options for the Colour Run), will add to the wonderful family fun too! An event for our school community that cannot be missed! Hope to see everyone there!

Active Paths

It was great to have many families and staff join in the launch of the Active Paths last Friday. A reminder that the Open Streets program will be operating for the next three Fridays commencing this Friday.  Children along with their families are encouraged to actively travel to school - walk, ride or scoot.

Please note that Landcox Street, outside of the school grounds, between Lockwood Ave and Wairoa Ave, will be closed to car traffic between (8.15am – 9.15 am) and pick up (3pm – 4pm) times,  to create safe and healthy space for families arriving at the school gates. More information will be sent out via Compass this Thursday.

Joint SRC and School Council Meeting

On the evening of Tuesday 17th October, we are holding our annual joint School Council meeting with the members of the Student Representative Council (SRC) joining the first part of the evening. This shared meeting encourages our students to actively engage with Council members, share their ideas and as always, they will have a range of improvements that they will table for the Council to consider. Our SRC is student lead and is a positive space where students can make an impact, suggest change and work collaboratively to build our school.

We thank Rebecca Garrett and Jazmin Valentine for their work in preparing the SRC for next week’s meeting and for their work with the SRC throughout the year. The meeting starts 6.00pm in the MPC and all members of the school community are welcome to attend.

Classes for 2024

In preparation for the 2024 learning year, we ask parents to put in writing, addressed to Julie Pitts, julie.pitts@education.vic.gov.au  any concerns, or social/emotional issues around the placement of your child into a class group for next year.  Please include your child’s name and current class in your request. Please note teacher requests will not be considered. Friday, 3rd November is the cut-off date for the lodgement of these written requests. Written requests received by the above date will be considered along with teacher judgement.

Families who are not returning to Gardenvale PS (apart from Year 6 students) in 2024 are asked to inform the office in writing. This will assist with forward planning and class structures for the coming year.

Our thoughts are with everyone personally impacted by the unfolding events overseas.
