Learning & Teaching

In May, 25 students from St Joseph's submitted stories in the Dymocks Beyond Words Creative Writing Competition. Students were asked to write a story between 500 and 1500 words about any theme. There were some fantastic entries submitted by our students!

A big congratulations to Zia, who has been listed in the Top 100 out of a field of over 3000 entries! Zia’s story, How To Save A Turtle, will progress to the final judging round and will hopefully make the shortlist of stories in the Youth category.  Zia's story was featured last week on the Dymocks Beyond Words website: https://beyondwords.dymockstutoring.edu.au/winners-works/

The stories are being judged on two key things:

CRAFT: Is your story well written and descriptive? Have you shown a strong command of language, structure, and vocabulary? Is it clear that you understand what key elements go into making a good story?

IDEA: How original and unique is your idea? Has your story got something interesting to share? Does it affect the reader emotionally? Does your story grab the reader and make them want to read more?

You can read Zia's story in the 'Senior Spotlight' section of today's newsletter.

Winners in each category will be announced at the Awards Evening on the 6th of October in Sydney. Good luck, Zia! What an incredible achievement!
