0ne-two-rful 1/2s

Term 4 Week 2 2023 - Friday 13th October

What have we been up to?

The 1/2 students should be so proud of the way they have adjusted back into the routine of school after the Term 3 holidays. It’s been a great start to Term 4, and we are looking forward to seeing all the amazing things that students will achieve in our final term together.

In both Reading and Writing, students have been looking at non-fiction text features and more specifically Explanation Texts. They have looked at language features and text structure. In Week 1 they read several Explanations and this week they read Saltie Mumma, a hybrid fiction and non-fiction text about a Saltwater Crocodile and her babies.

Maths has seen the students revisit addition during Maths Groups that are targeting their needs and abilities. They have then enjoyed learning about length and mass in their own classes through a variety of hands-on activities. Measuring with both formal and non-formal units.

Inquiry and Science has seen the introduction of two new topics. In Inquiry students have begun exploring Indigenous Perspectives and Indigenous Australian perspectives. In Science they began looking at light and sound, why they are important and where they come from.

They also set new class, academic and personal WIGs for Term 4, which they are excited to work towards achieving both as a class and individually.

Little Learners has also started back up again, with the students in new groups. Students are engaged and ready to learn, they love discussing and sharing the new rules they learn with their peers from other groups.

Here are some photo highlights from the fortnight that was!

1/2A – We used unifix. blocks to measure classroom objects and OURSELVES!

1/2B

1/2C - We measured the playground using formal and informal units of measurement.

What is coming up?

Reading

Over the next fortnight the 1/2 students will continue to look at a variety of hybrid fiction/non-fiction explanation texts to revise all the comprehension strategies they have learnt this year. They will also explore language features and structures of these texts.
