Welcome back
Welcome back to term 4! We are two weeks down already. The students have settled back into their classroom routines which has been great to see. We had six new students start with us this term in 12B, 12C, 34B and 56A. We welcome them and their families to our wonderful Le Page community! We have also recruited a new education support member Tom Picking who will be working with our Foundation team and children for the remainder of the year. Welcome Tom!
Hats in Term 4
It is a DET requirement that all students and staff wear broad brim hats when outside during term 1 and 4. Please make sure all hats are named clearly. If students forget or lose their hat there is plenty of shaded area between the main building and art room where they can play.
Franklin Covey visit
On Tuesday the 12th of September (in the last week of term 3) we had four interstate visitors from Franklin Covey spend a day at our school. They were
Evette Kirkwood, Operations Manager/Implementation Specialist
Amanda McGovern, Leader in Me Coach
Claire Banks, Senior Client Partner
Claire Massingham, Event & Communications Coordinator
The purpose of the day was for them to see how we use the 7 habits as a tool to support us. They spoke with students across the school to see how children from Prep to Year 6 use the 7 habits in their day to day lives. Our visitors also spoke with classroom teachers and education support about the impact of the 7 habits for our students. Our visitors were blown away by the way our children could articulate their understanding of how the habits can help us in all aspects of our lives.
After School Care Availability
The City of Kingston who is our before and after school care provider have informed me that for most days there is no waitlist to get children in. They have recommended that parents try booking using the app and if it shows no availability then to call them to check. Their feedback to us is that Thursdays are usually the busiest days but there should be availability on all other days.
Attitudes to School Survey
Each year our Year 4-6 students participate in an optional Attitudes to School Survey. The purpose is to gain some insight into how our students feel about our school climate and educational experiences. The survey is completed online and anonymously. Our school has had very positive results over the past several years and the results for this year are just as positive. Below is some basic information with comparisons to similar schools, network schools and state data. The percentage is based on positive endorsement of each category.

Gould League Renovations
As our school continues to grow, we have been needing more classrooms year by year. Over the holidays and last week several meetings were held about acquiring another classroom space for 2024 as we move to 11 classes. Starting this weekend, some minor renovations will commence. In the main building we will be regaining the classroom next to the staffroom. 3 rooms in the main building will all have new carpet, blinds and cupboards for storage. This freshen up is well and truly needed and we look forward to having more space ready for 2024.
Disabled Carpark
It is exciting to announce that we have received notice from Kingston Council that after many years of asking, they will be constructing a Disabled parking bay outside the front of the school. This parking place is to improve safety and accessibility for the school community and residents.
Works are expected to be completed by June 2024 and are expected to take around 2-4 weeks to complete.
We will provide further information around the construction timeline and requirements when we receive confirmation of the starting date in 2024.
Bike Education
Our 2023 Bike Education program for years 3-6 is due to start in week 3 this term. This is aimed at bike safety education, for students riding bikes in the community, on the footpaths with pedestrians and cars, as well as an introduction to riding on the roads safely with lots of distractions, including parked cars, pedestrians, dogs, other cyclists and more. This year, for the first time, Mr Bradley is hoping to support those students that have yet to learn how to ride a bike and participate too.
The program is great for encouraging students to get more active, ride more often and hopefully with the warmer weather ride to and from school more frequently.
As mentioned this is a 3-6 program, but I strongly encourage students in Foundation to year 2 to learn how to ride a bike (if they don’t already know how to), or get riding more often, because when they get to year 3 we want as many students to be confident to participate as possible.
The program will culminate with the year 5 and 6 students doing a ‘Big Ride Out’ towards the end of the year, from school to Mordialloc Beach.
I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend and we are looking forward to another great week in week 3!
