CURRICULUM FOCUS

This week in Writing the students will be working on their persuasive writing. Students will be using a Sizzling Start to introduce their opinion.

VOCABULARY

Persuasive writing: a type of writing that tries to persuade the reader to agree with an opinion.

Sizzling Start: The best writers begin their writing with a bang! First impressions are vital. A Sizzling Start makes an impression on the reader. A Sizzling Start is using a creative approach to the beginning. 

Example: 

Before - I believe that books are better than television.

After - Have you ever had yourself transported to the High Seas, the wind in your hair and the salty ocean breeze whipping your face as your ship sails across the Caribbean? That's the imaginative power books have for me! 

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Ask your child to decide on an argument

For example: 

Children should get paid for good grades.

Basketball is the best game ever!

Minecraft is better than Roblox.

Have your child write down 3 Sizzling Starts to begin their writing.
