Around Our School
Green Team News
The Green Team was full of enthusiasm for the first Green Team meeting in Term Four. It was exciting to observe the growth of all the seeds we had sown last term and overall, we felt very pleased with their progress. Nearly all the herb and vegetable seeds had germinated and were ready to be planted in Brendan’s Garden.
Firstly, we all walked around the garden observing the changes in the fruit trees. It was exciting to see many of the fruit trees have grown in size and set fruit. We discussed netting the trees and decided to wait two more weeks before putting the nets on.
After looking at all the empty garden beds and checking for weeds, we put our gloves on and discussed the tasks we needed to achieve. All the team were keen to plant a pumpkin seedling, so we chose the large garden bed near the worm farm to plant them. I was very proud of all the students who were able to independently and proficiently plant their pumpkin seedling. It will be fun to observe the pumpkin plants grow and spill out of the boxes and we are expecting a bumper crop next year.
The next planting project was to sow the corn seedlings. Again the students worked confidently, planting the small seedlings carefully in two garden boxes.
Our zucchini seedlings had not been so successful germinating, however we had just enough to fill one garden box.
The final seedlings to be planted were the herbs. Most of the herb seeds we had sown last term had germinated. The only seeds that had not germinated were tarragon and thyme. The herbs we planted were parsley, Italian parsley, basil, coriander, dill and sage. Coriander won first prize for growing the biggest, with basil coming second and dill third. We can’t wait to see our hard work grow and thrive in Brendan’s Garden.
What's happening in Foundation H
Foundation has been learning about the past, present and future as part of Inquiry unit for the term.
Ida - The past is things that have already happened.
Marley - The present is things that are happening right now.
Remi - The future means it hasn't happened yet.
The Foundation students used their lives to think about the past, present and future. Each student bought a picture of themselves as a baby and then thought about what we did between being a baby and being at school now. We then thought about the things we will do in the future, like when we are an adult or 100 years old!
We invited Mrs Turner and Foundation R in and shared our timelines with them.
Please enjoy our timelines!
Padua College Academic Challenge
We were asked to select 10 students to attend a ‘Padua Academic Challenge Day’. This day was set out for students who are talented academically and are able to participate in collaborative learning experiences with their like-minded peers.
This challenge day took place at Padua College Mornington campus, with Year 7 and primary aged Year 6 students, working together across a myriad of disciplines.
We are very proud to announce that we came 4th overall, against strong competition from 11 other schools, including students in Year 7.
A day full of fun, collaboration, teamwork and competition!
This is Jax C entertaining Year 1/2T with his musical talents. He has been playing for 11 months and is taught by his Poppa. He played Sweet Child of Mine by SLASH. He played TNT by ACDC and a song he has made up himself. Such a talent. Could we see him on stage soon???
