Cebula Boarding

Boarding News

Our Cebula community has been very busy in the last weeks of term. Boys have been involved in a variety of activities including the Year 9 R U OK Day picnic with St Brigid’s, the Year 7 Water Expo and the end of term late night shopping outing which was greatly anticipated and very well received. We also had several boys take part in the finals of hockey and football which were followed by end of season events where the boys were able to celebrate their participation and efforts. It really does seem that the holidays have arrived at the perfect time so that everyone can have the opportunity to rest and recharge at home with their family and friends.

Last week, we celebrated with our Year 12s, acknowledging that their time as members of the Cebula Residential community is quickly ending. We held a family style farewell dinner where the boys were welcomed into the dining room through a guard of honour and served their favourite meals along with some special treats including a dessert bar and slushie machine.

Continuing a long-standing tradition, I enjoyed a lovely evening out at dinner with the Year 12s at the Kalamunda Hotel recently. We were joined by Mr Harvey, and it was great listening to the boys' post school plans. Interestingly, their excitement went hand in hand with a little sadness and a sense of not knowing what to expect when their time at Mazenod came to an end. One thing is certain, these fine young men have been well prepared for the next chapter of their lives, and I know that they will take with them many happy memories of their time at the College and in the boarding house. Early next term we will have further opportunities to farewell the boys when we host them, along with their parents, at a Boarding graduation dinner in the dining room followed by several special and significant College valedictory events.

We wish all the Year 12s sitting for their exams during the break the very best of luck.  I know that they have been studying diligently and hope that they will be pleased with their efforts. Others of the group will be undertaking work experience and we hope that they will find the time rewarding and beneficial.

Our 2024 leadership candidates, Josh, Sam and Clinton attended what was a great few days away at the leadership camp and came back full of enthusiasm and positivity. It was really encouraging listening to them address the boarding house at dinner last Tuesday and hear their commitment to serving Cebula House and the College. We wish the boys well in their leadership journey and look forward to the announcements in the very near future.

I wish you all a very enjoyable and safe holiday break with your sons and look forward to welcoming them all back, along with three new boarders joining us for the first time, on 9 October when we reopen from 12noon.
