Spring Wishes and a Glimpse into Upcoming Ventures
I’d just like to wish everyone a recuperative Spring vacation, as I head over to Iona College, Lindum, QLD for mine with our new Lesmurdie Parish Priest and member of our new cluster community here at Mazenod, Fr Matthew Raj OMI. He’ll be coming here in mid-October . I’ll be back in mid November.
God be with you all,
William Ousley OMI
St. Vincent de Paul Prayer
Lord Jesus, may the example of St. Vincent de Paul inspire us to be generous of hearts and hand to the needy.
May our generosity flow from humble gratitude for your many gifts to us, rather than from false pride in our own abilities.
We are all needy in our own ways-and so are dependent on your generosity and that of others.
Help us to respond willingly to the Gospel call to self-giving love, to look for ways to serve rather than expecting to be served.
Amen.
Hands of Eugene – acts of service in our local community!
The Hands of Eugene has been very active in our local community during Term 3.
Students in Years 11 and 12 have been giving up their early Tuesday mornings to tutor the students at Mary’s Mount Primary School in Gooseberry Hill in maths and reading. It has been wonderful to watch the positive relationships flourish between the primary and secondary students. Who knew that both groups would benefit so much from the weekly activity.
Up in Kalamunda on Saturdays and Sundays, students from Years 7, 8 and 9 have been helping the Friends of Wilkins Road care for an area of bush land through weeding and collecting rubbish from the site. On Saturday 16 September, they were privileged to join in a tour of the site, which was led by Penny Hussey, who helped the group to identify plants and other interesting information about the bush land that they are looking after. Penny Hussey AM is a past president and long-time member of the WA Naturalists’ Club, she also worked for CALM/DEC and is very active with the Wildflower Society.

Living the Charism
In sending Oblates into a new diocese, Eugene insisted that their spirit and charism be understood and respected.
…May it please God that in the diocese of Nancy, as you lead me to hope for the future, people will be able to understand the excellence of the vocation that dedicates a person to the glory of God, to the service of the Church in its most difficult duties, and to the salvation of the most abandoned souls.
Eugene de Mazenod’s letter to M. Marguet, Vicar General of Nancy, France, 15 June 1847
REFLECTION
Eugene's clarity about the excellence of our vocation, and his insistence that it be properly understood, continues to be lived today in the vocation of each of our Mazenodian Family members.
Our vocation is the love of God expressed in the Church with a special predilection for the most abandoned. "Many people mistake our work for our vocation. Our vocation is the love of Jesus." (Mother Teresa)
