F/1 AROUND THE CLASSROOM
Religion; Lent and Easter Learning ✝️
Over the past few weeks in Religion, our class has begun exploring the first part of our Lent and Easter unit. Students have been learning about the importance of Lent as a special time to try our best, show kindness, and grow closer to Jesus.
Throughout these lessons, the children have enjoyed a variety of hands-on and reflective activities. We spent time drawing pictures of ways we can show love like Jesus, thinking about how we can be kind, helpful, and caring to others both at school and at home. Students also explored the meaning of Lent through painting with the colour purple, learning that purple reminds us that Lent is a time for reflection, making good choices, and trying our best to follow Jesus’ example.
As a class, we have been listening to stories about Jesus through Godly Play, which allows students to wonder, reflect, and share their ideas about the messages within the stories. These lessons have encouraged thoughtful discussions about how we can live out Jesus’ teachings in our everyday actions.
Students have also been learning about the special symbols in our prayer space and around our school. In particular, we explored the cross and how it reminds us of Jesus and all the good he did, helping us to remember his love and kindness.
It has been wonderful to see the students engaging so thoughtfully with these lessons as we continue our journey towards Easter.
1/2CS - AROUND THE CLASSROOM
Over the last weeks, our students have been preparing our hearts and learning about the season of Lent - a special time in the Church where we prepare our hearts for Easter through prayer, fasting, and giving to others. We have been exploring how small, meaningful actions can help us grow to be more like Jesus.
As part of our learning, students created thoughtful “Letting Go” parcels. Each student reflected on something they could fast from during Lent, completing the sentence: “This Lent I am letting go of…”. These included things like unkind words, arguing, or not listening - showing a wonderful understanding of how our choices impact others.
We also created a beautiful Giving Tree, where students added gift tags sharing ways they can give to others. It was heartwarming to see ideas such as showing love, offering smiles, helping at home, and including others in play. These simple acts remind us that giving doesn’t always mean material things - it can be shown through kindness and compassion.
As we move into Holy Week, we are learning about the important events that led up to Easter:
- Palm Sunday – when Jesus was welcomed into Jerusalem
- Holy Thursday – remembering the Last Supper
- Good Friday – reflecting on Jesus’ sacrifice
- Easter Sunday – celebrating the joy of Jesus’ resurrection
Through these stories and activities, students are developing a deeper understanding of faith, reflection, and the importance of caring for others in our everyday lives.
3/4AE - AROUND THE CLASSROOM
Religion
In Religion, students have been learning about parables and their meanings. To assess their understanding, students selected one of the parables we explored and created a storyboard to retell the key events of the story. They also explained the message or lesson they believe the parable is teaching us.
Naplan
NAPLAN is done and dusted! A massive congratulations to the Grade 3 students for giving it their very best effort.
I was also incredibly proud of the Year 4 students, who showed great responsibility and focus by putting their best effort into all assigned work. They produced some fantastic narratives, along with creative and detailed mythical creatures that were thoughtfully designed and described.
5/6- AROUND THE CLASSROOM
This week, our Year 5/6 students continued their enthusiasm for our Inquiry topic: Making Democracy. So far, we’ve begun exploring the three levels of government in Australia and discovering what each level is responsible for. Students are already asking big questions and making great connections to their own lives.
Recently we took a citizenship test together - just like new Australians do! This sparked lots of discussion about the rights and responsibilities of citizens, and what it means to contribute positively to a community.
Over the coming weeks, students will continue to investigate how elections work, what makes a good leader, and how laws are created. They’ll also have the chance to become active citizens themselves by raising awareness about an issue they care about.
It’s been a fantastic unit, and we’re excited to keep building our understanding of how democracy works - and how we can play a part in shaping it!
