A Message from Keir and Emma

“We would like to acknowledge the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people, the first people to dream, create, wonder, dance, play and learn on this breathtaking land. This land was cared for and respected for tens of thousands of years. The First Nations people lived in companionship with the animals and the life on this land. We acknowledge that this is stolen land and we pay our respects to elders, past, present and emerging.”

Grade 2 Neighbourhood Walks
As we move into our next Inquiry big idea, our Grade 2 students will be exploring ways that they can help in the community. Their big idea is, ‘We act in ways that build community’. This week each class will be going on a Neighbourhood Walk. During the walk, they will visit the Campbell-Turnbull library for a librarian chat, Dunstan Reserve for a play and snack, our friends at Dunstan Reserve kinder and the Dunstan Food Forest and Community Garden. JSR went on their walk today. You can read their recount and see some photos later in the newsletter.
NAPLAN Sessions
Beginning Wednesday 11th March, our Grade 3 and Grade 5 students will begin the NAPLAN assessments. As mentioned in last week’s newsletter, NAPLAN assesses the literacy and numeracy skills that students are learning through the school curriculum and allows parents/carers and schools to see how their child is progressing against national standards. It is just one aspect of a school’s assessment and reporting process and does not replace ongoing assessments made by teachers about student performance.
The schedule below outlines the days when each year level will be completing each assessment. The assessments have been scheduled to ensure there is minimal disruption to the usual weekly timetable.
If you have any questions about your child sitting NAPLAN, please talk with your child’s classroom teacher.

Being SunSmart
As part of our school’s commitment to teaching and promoting SunSmart behaviours, we expect our students to wear a wide-brimmed, SunSmart hat at recess, lunch and during any outdoor lessons, throughout Terms 1 and 4. We have noticed that as the weather is cooling down a little, some students are no longer bringing hats to school. Please check that your child has a hat in their bag and support them to stay SumSmart for the remainder of this term.
