From the Classroom

Junior Unit Tells All
Our Junior Unit has been engaged in so much learning this fortnight! Our Junior A students read 'We are Going on a Bear Hunt' and then made their very own version of the book to go on their very own Principal Hunt! They made the book in pairs, each drawing a different sections of the school together. We then sequenced the book together and used it to go around the school trying to find Mr Mulhall, they eventually found him in his office!
Junior B have been working on constructing a Narrative text after reading 'A Bag and A Bird' and 'Duck on a Bike'. We have drawn from these stories to learn about setting, characters and the sequence in a narrative.
In Maths, Junior A and Junior B have completed our Place Value Units, where they looked at naming numbers. Junior B also worked through how to separate numbers into groups of tens and ones, how to round numbers to the nearest ten and make 'reasonable' estimates. Junior A is now working on Location (they used teddies and stuffies to put them behind, on top, inside, outside and underneath different things in the classroom) and Junior B have started their Measurement unit on length.
In Inquiry, Junior A have continued their unit 'All About Me', where students have been sharing about their families. Junior B have continued to learn our School Wide Positive Behaviour Expectations and have become very knowledgeable about our behaviour matrix!
Middle Unit News
Middle B have begun reading Iceberg by Claire Saxby in English. This beautifully written picture book has provided an excellent opportunity for students to explore how authors communicate deeper ideas through a story.
As we read the text together, students are discussing the themes within the book, such as curiosity, exploration, and the importance of looking beyond what we first see. The story also helps students understand that there is often more beneath the surface, both in nature and in storytelling.
Students are learning to identify clues in the words and illustrations that help reveal the author’s message. They have been sharing their thoughts, making connections, and reflecting on what the story teaches us about the natural world and our own curiosity.
In Numeracy, students in Middle B are learning about decimals. Students are developing their understanding of how decimals represent parts of a whole and how they relate to fractions and place value.
Students are learning to recognise, read and represent decimals to the hundredths place. They are using place value knowledge to understand the relationship between ones, tenths and hundredths, and are practising representing decimals using number lines, place value charts and visual models.
Students are also comparing and ordering decimals and making connections between fractions and decimal notation. Through hands-on activities and problem-solving tasks, students are building confidence in applying their understanding of decimals in different mathematical contexts.
English: Middle A has continued to read the text Sophie Scott, identifying key ideas on each diary entry to then place them on a timeline which is displayed in our room. We are going to create a information report on a animal from Antarctica, which we are going to begin researching over the next few lessons.
Math:
Middle A have continued to work on place value. Through hands on lessons the students have been exploring the place value of hundredths, tens and units by creating animals and robots using place value blocks. Students have then transferred what their findings into a graph which represented which place value blocks were used to create their chosen animal.
Senior News
In English, students will continue exploring our class novel Storm Boy. They will examine the messages and morals within the story and analyse how multimodal features, such as illustrations, add meaning, mood and emotion. Students will also watch the film adaptation and compare it with the novel, discussing similarities and differences in elements such as the problem, resolution, language choices and overall message.
Students will then begin a new English focus that will continue into next term. They will explore how significant historical events can be presented through different perspectives and will consider how authors shape their writing based on context, purpose and audience.
In Maths, students will continue developing their understanding of fractions and decimals. They will practise representing, comparing and ordering decimal numbers, as well as connecting fractions and decimals. Students will also work on rounding, estimating and solving problems involving these concepts. Throughout these lessons, students will apply their reasoning skills to explain their thinking and solve real-world mathematical problems.
In Inquiry, students will explore how music from different cultures can change and adapt over time and how music can connect to people’s identities. Working in pairs, students will research different music genres from around the world and investigate where the music comes from, how it has evolved and how it reflects culture, traditions and language.
This week our school will host sport at Marlborough for the final round of Summer Interschool Sport. Next term, students will take part in Winter Interschool Sport. Further information will be shared closer to the start of the term.

Seda AFL Clinic
Last Thursday 12/3, our students had an exciting opportunity to work alongside the SEDA students, who ran a fantastic session focused on developing kicking, handball and teamwork skills.
The activities were engaging, energetic and full of encouragement, with our students showing great enthusiasm as they practiced their skills and worked together. It was wonderful to see such positive collaboration and support throughout the session.
A big thank you to the SEDA students for their time, effort and leadership. Your enthusiasm and support made the experience truly enjoyable for everyone involved.
Thank you to Mrs. Chisholm for organising such a great opportunity for our students to participate in.
