Principal's Report
Simone Roy
Thankyou to everyone who self-nominated for the vacant positions on School Council. We received the exact number of nominations for the vacancies, meaning we did not need to hold an election. Our new student reps are Marley-May and Ziva, both in Year 10. Our new parent reps are Owen Davies, Courtney Dangerfield and Sarah Macdonald, and our new staff reps are Andrew Greenfield, Mitch Harris and Rhona Weir.
Our School Council AGM will be held in Week 8, on Wednesday 18th March from 6.00-6.15pm in Room 9, with the new School Council holding their first meeting from 6.15pm onwards.
The rectification works are now underway, but the architect and Victorian Schools Building Authority (VSBA) have not been overly happy with some of the works that have occurred to this point. The handover meeting that was planned for this Friday has been postponed until the following Friday, 13th March. The VSBA led project is now well overdue (the original handover date was planned for December) and our frustration with the hold up and inconvenience caused to our students and staff has been voiced to all parties involved in the project. On a positive note, once the bathrooms are completed, they will be a welcome addition to our facilities.
The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) for Years 7 and 9 students are starting next week, running from Wednesday 11th to Monday 23rd March.
All eligible students are expected to participate in the NAPLAN tests and catch up tests will be available. NAPLAN participation can assist the school to receive additional funding, if needed, to support all our students, so we encourage strong participation.
The Year 7s spent some time this week practicing logging in and viewing the practice test site. They answered questions similar to what they might experience and saw the online tools that will be available for assistance, such as the calculator, protractor and ruler.
NAPLAN helps demonstrate progress and growth in learning over time, so all we ask is that our students give each test a go and try their best!
