At St Joseph’s, we see firsthand the incredible difference a nightly reading habit makes. Whether it’s a picture book, a graphic novel, or a gripping chapter book, those fifteen minutes spent tucked up on the couch or at the bedside do far more than just "tick a box" for homework.
Reading is a muscle, and like any athlete, our students need daily practice to stay in top form. Here is how that nightly story time is secretly building your child’s brain:
While the skills are important, the connection is the real magic. When reading is associated with a quiet moment of warmth and undivided attention from a parent, children stop seeing it as a school task and start seeing it as positive family time.
We aren't just teaching them how to read; we are showing them why we read: to travel to new worlds, to laugh at silly characters, and to understand the world around us.
Let’s work together to make every St Joseph’s student a confident, curious reader. Happy reading!
